I got a call today from one of my very good friends, Cassandra. She had just attended a birth and the baby was stillborn. They had known for a couple weeks that the baby didn't make it but it is still hard to see. It ended up being some kind of birth defect where the head was pretty much jello ( Read more... )

I don't know exactly how I will hanle it either. I would think my working in a funeral home for three years would benefit me in that type of situation. Honestly though, I think it will be different when it is a baby in my care that is lost.
I hope Cassandra is ok. I feel for her. That is one of the downfalls of this path we are choosing.

I can tell you from a student point of view that you're right. When i was doing clinicals at CMH, i saw a miscarried little boy and I cried for a couple hours. It was so sad! I can also tell you this: when you asist in successful births and see hoe happy and fulfilling helping a woman to create life is, it will be totally worth it. You'll be alright.
