Flowers! Part 2

May 10, 2013 22:19

Continuing my last post, I found a bunch more wildflowers. I got some of them identified (with the help of my aunt) but many are still a mystery.

This desert flower is quite hard to photograph, but it has adorable little purple flowers on it.

Im cheating a bit on this one, but it’s such a pretty azalea I couldn’t resist. These are native to the region but they are not native to our mostly desert ranch. (They like the damp forest regions). But somehow my aunt managed to convince one to grow in her yard and right now it’s blooming splendidly.

Sage! Specifically “Big leaf sage”. We have several species of sage around here but this one here flowers. It’s a bit early for their flowers yet, but today I found some with early buds on them. When in full bloom they are covered with that beautiful blue flower you see just poking out from the purple.

Penstemon! There are several species of penstemon in the region, but this is the one that grows on the ranch. Isn’t it lovely?

While out and about earlier I stumbled upon this yellow flower. Im not sure if Ive ever seen it around before. But there it was. I have no idea what kind of flower it is.

Im not sur what this one is either. But it’s a nice flowering shrub of sorts.

I think these are a sort of daisy. Beyond that, I can’t narrow it down. But they are out in gobs right now.

Another one of my discoveries on my adventure from this morning! This is another flower Ive never seen before!

Oh, I also don’t know what this one is. But its lovely and purple. (Its more purple in person)

I don’t know what sort of flowers these somewhat ugly viney things are. My aunt suspects its part of the pea family.

MONKEY FLOWERS. They’re lovely and enjoy growing by the creek.

Watercress? At least I think its watercress. Anyways it grows in the creek and is currently in bloom with its small white flowers.

These are out quite yet, so I had to cheat and use a photo from the internet. But speaking of things that grow in the creek, we have the wild water iris. (Iris pseudacorus ) Despite being pretty, they are a weed. My family goes through great lengths every year to clean them out with the backhoe. Otherwise they clog up the waterway.

Back to the desert! Here we have another small yellow flower!

I tried really hard to get a nice pic of this one. Its really lovely. But no matter what I did it came out blurry.

I think these are “cushion phlox”. They’re much more purple in person and enjoy growing on rocky ledges.

These small purple flowers are all over the ground right now. They may be a weed. Oh well.

Wild Mustard! Mustard is a weed right? Anyways, its also out in gobs!

These aren’t out yet, so this is another stolen photo from the web. But here we have the Sage Mariposa Lilly. They are the last to bloom around here, usually showing up sometime in June.

I have NO IDEA what these are. But I think of them as dandelions on steroids. The way the shimmer in the sun makes them look metallic. Its awesome.
