They both silently watched, fingers intertwined, their bodies wrapped in each other’s, as history was made on the opposite side of the country. Watching the crowd inside the Stonewall Inn and out in the streets of New York City, jubilant and emotional, Luke felt a small tightening in his throat, which he quickly recognized as the first steps to his inevitable tears. There was still so much more to do, so much fighting still left, but this one step was so significant and meant so much to all of them.
“That’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen,” Noah breathed into Luke's hair, brushing his lips against Luke’s temple.
“It really is,” Luke smiled.

Later that night, as they were getting ready for bed, Luke caught Noah silently staring at him through bathroom mirror. Spitting out the toothpaste in his mouth and giving a quick rinse, he quirked an eyebrow, before gently asking, “what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong,” Noah said softly. “I was just wondering…”
“Wondering what?”
The response did not come immediately. Instead, Noah continued to stare deeply at him, his eyes piercing into Luke’s. Finally, after what seemed like forever but was no more than a minute, he quietly muttered, “What you’d say if I asked you to marry me.”
Silence filled the bathroom.
Trying to keep the whirlwind of emotions raging inside him, everything from excitement, hesitation, joy, fear and who knows what else, Luke breathed out as calmly as he could, “are you asking me?”
“Maybe…I guess, I don’t know.”
“Well if that was a proposal, no offense Mayer, but you kind of suck at it.” Luke smiled, as he walked past Noah, letting him know there was no anger in his comment.
Following Luke into their bedroom, Noah said, “I just…watching all these people tonight, seeing something we didn’t think would ever happen become a reality, at least in New York anyway, it just made me wonder you know. Made me think about you, me and forever and what that all means.”
Luke had busied himself turning down the comforter as Noah spoke. Done, he walked towards Noah, drawing him into his arms, before planting a soft and tender kiss on his lips.
“I understand," he muttered against Noah's lips. "Watching tonight made me feel the same way.” Then with another kiss, this time a little deeper and more passionate, he gently pulled himself out of Noah’s arms before coyly adding, “And to answer your question, I’ll let you know when you ask me.”
“No fair Snyder,” Noah laughed.
Smirking, Luke stated, “tough,” before getting into bed.

However, a few hours later when they were both sated and exhausted from a particularly vigorous lovemaking session, Luke turned in Noah’s arms, bringing their faces directly up against each other’s. Noah’s eyes were closed but Luke could still see his lids fluttering a bit, a sure sign that while he was almost asleep, he wasn’t fully quite there yet.
“Yes,” Luke whispered.
“Hmm,” Noah mumbled confused, before forcing his eyes open.
“The answer’s yes,” Luke repeated. And before Noah could ask him to explain, he added, “you asked what I would say if you asked me to marry you and the answer’s yes. Whether you ask me tomorrow or ten, fifteen years down the road, the answer will always be yes.”
Noah stared quietly at Luke, his eyelids laden with sleep but still alert enough to process everything Luke had said. Luke stared back, seeing the intense and overpowering swell of Noah’s love for him without his having to say a word. They wordlessly stared at each other soaking in the other’s unspoken words and the intensity of the moment before Noah moved forward, getting close enough to practically mold his body into Luke’s.
“I will love you for the rest of my life,” he whispered against Luke’s soft, kiss swollen lips.
Closing his eyes, soaking in the words, Luke whispered, “ditto.”
