Battlestar Galactica

I watched the final episode of Battlestar Galactica with some friends. As an homage to Baltar, we all wore bathrobes.

It was good, but with large servings of Lame. I'm hoping for a fan reworking to improve it; the fans seem to have a more coherent view of some things than the writers. But there was much cool, and the lame was lame, not evil.

For the most part, I liked the last few episodes very much, but was disappointed in the finale. WTF were the writers thinking? Whatever it was, they didn't do a good job conveying it to their audience.

I'd predicted Baltar (and his six) as the ultimate survivor though, so I was pleased at how that plotline played out.

Well, that's the thing "what were the writers thinking", writers plural.

Turns out, from reading interviews, they didn't actually have a plan. And then they tried to work out the conclusions in committee. Would have been a miracle if they'd pulled it off, in retrospect.

It's like they were jointly writing a mystery, and never agreed if it was the butler, the son-in-law, or the ex-lover, and in the end they could only decide it was a tramp we never met, who had been let in during the night off camera.

We were spoiled by JMS.
