A young Naroom magi bounded after a flock of Eebits with a bright, blue blanket clutched between his hands. The large sheet of quilted cloth was supposed to have been dress material for his mother, but Woot had given it to his little friend, Chayla, as a birthday gift, unbeknownst to his mother. He also wanted to give her another Eebit, since the fuzzy critters seemed to like Chayla so much.

He whooped and spun around a large tree trunk suddenly. His prey had vanished.

“They can’t get away so easily.” Woot muttered. He dropped on all fours and started to sniff at the ground curiously. He knew the scent of Eebit well because Chayla always kept them about. His father was a tracker, too, so he had excellent senses.

Crawling around and sniffing the dirt, Woot was quite a sight. He could hear a faint giggle behind him. It must have been the birthday girl. Tagging along on his crazy hunts was one of her hobbies. She enjoyed laughing at his strange antics.

“Hold on, Fuzz,” Woot grumbled and approached a small hollow carved into a tree. “I gotcha!”

He dove into the tree trunk head first and quickly netted a group of Eebits. Snorting and huffing, Woot pulled himself out of the tree and emerged victoriously with a blanket full of choice Eebits. He walked up to ‘Fuzz’, a nickname he had given Chayla, and thrust the blanket into her open arms.

“Happy birthday!” He declared.

Chayla burst out into laughter suddenly and plucked a leaf out of his wild, blonde hair. She clapped a hand over her mouth and murmured, “You look like an Eebit now!”

Woot twisted his face and growled softly; it was his best imitation of the small creatures she loved so much. He found himself chuckling along with her.

“You dummy, Eebits don’t like being captured like that.”

Chayla bent over and released the squealing critters back into the open forest, much to Woot’s dismay. He had spent all morning trying to catch one for her.

Instead of running away, the grateful creatures gathered around Chayla and nuzzled her legs. She responded by petting and cooing over them. Woot looked confused as the smallest of the bunch shyly approached him and curled up beside his big feet.

They spent the rest of the afternoon playing with the Eebits and enjoying the magic of the forest while it was still there.
