Sunlight streamed in through the open window and settled upon the newly joined couple nestled in a warm bed beneath a mountain of blankets. It was a strange, rare sight in light of the battle that had passed through Vash Naroom only a few weeks ago. Perhaps their recent union was a good omen that witnessed to the peace that would follow.
The young husband was the first to stir. He stretched his skinny arms above his head and glanced down at his lovely, snoring bride. He stifled a fit of laughter and replaced his arm around her bare shoulders.
She fascinated him. So small and helpless in his embrace, no one would suspect her of having a stern temperament. Ever since her father's passing, she had relied on him heavily. The inn was hers to tend now and she couldn't do it alone.
"Ohk?" She moaned and shuffled around beneath the thick layers of wool. Snorting and grasping at his arms, she sat upright and added in a dry voice, "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something stuck on my face?"
"You're so cute." He replied with a sigh and combed through her wild, red hair with his slender fingers. Leaning forward and thrusting her into his chest, he declared, "And you're all mine. For good."
Rhea's face brightened against his peachy flesh as she stammered, "Stop acting so funny!"
Promptly after her uncouth reply, she threw her little arms around him and quietly giggled. He was her hope now. What strength she had retained stemmed from him.
She was the luckiest girl in the Moonlands.
