It was the shadow magi they called “Warrada.” She loomed just above the chasm that spanned the valley’s exit. Serafi noticed, however, that the woman’s companion was missing. The Core Stalker must have succeeded in his endeavor.
Several Calders had joined their ranks. Heat and flame swirled around the battlefield, as they were eager to engage Warrada and did so quickly. Korok watched the foolish Arderian flit into the heart of battle and urged his Moga across the bridge. His eyes remained fixed on the Arderian as she took on one of the magi guarding Warrada. He had to hurry or -
Wind gushed out of the valley, smashing the opposing magi’s creatures into animite. The way Serafi moved around the battlefield perplexed him; not at all uniform, she had her own rhythm. Unfortunately, she miscalculated her enemy’s strength and was hurled back into the granite wall.
Korok leapt from his mount and tackled the shadow magi to the ground. He quickly ended the magi’s miserable existence with a deft blow from his clawed gauntlets. He glanced back at Serafi, who had a terrified look in her eyes.

Huddled against the cavern wall, Serafi recalled the terrible battle from earlier that morning. Night had fallen and victory was theirs, for now. She couldn’t block out the chilling memory of Korok’s merciless blow against her adversary.
Korok watched her from across the cave and grumbled. He only protected her; what was the crime in that? Had he let the magi live, they surely would have gone after his companion again.
Serafi blew into her little hands, struggling to keep warm. She thought Nar was supposed to be the only frigid region but her limited experience proved wrong again.
Korok shook his head and stood up suddenly. He moved closer to the shivering magi and draped his furry cloak over her shoulders with a grunt, "You Arderians aren't very adaptable or tough. Harsh conditions only serve to strengthen the bearer. You would do well to remember that."
It was the first act of discernable kindness he had shown her. Serafi’s fear slowly subsided as he sat beside her and stoked the fire blazing before them. As she looked closer, she could see scars and cuts etched along his sturdy arms.
She hesitantly scooted closer to him and whispered, “Thank you.”
