She was up against an army.
They had Eilis cornered. Her heart threatened to leap out of her chest; She was that frightened. She warned them one last time,
"He will kill all of you. Please, just leave me alone."
They scoffed at her petty threat and took the initiative to attack. Two of the bandits circled around to Eilis's sides, knives drawn and ready to strike. A strange kind of hunger blazed away in their empty eyes. A hunger for warm flesh, perhaps?
Eilis sucked in her short breath and barreled through the bandits by diving under their legs. She was tiny enough to pull off the ill-thought escape and started to run in the opposite direction.
Truth be told, Eilis was tired of disappointing Baine and being a constant burden to him. She could easily get herself out of this mess. They were only bandits, right?
A large hyren landed before her and roared in her direction. The leader of the bandits was perched atop the beast, sneering down at the girl with an ugly grin. Eilis had done it this time.
The hyren reared back and raised its forearm high into the icy air. Eilis scrambled in the other direction, trying to avoid its reaching talons. She wasn't quick enough and the creature scooped her up into the air with ease. The bandit crossed the spiny path of the hyren's backside and forcefully slapped Eilis's head to the side.
"I've gone through a lot of hell trying to catch you. Just behave yourself until the Rift Lord appears. The bounty on his head will fetch a juicy sum from her ladyship, Calyn." He spoke disdainfully and watched Eilis stare at him. She spat onto his grimy face and looked away in disgust.
"You'll pay for that, you little brat." He grabbed her face in his left hand and brought her lips close to his. "Let's play a game while we wait for your precious Baine, shall we?"
Eilis's face was vacant of amusement. She knew all too well about this magi's fate. She did not reply to his suggestion. She only waited. Waited for him to come. He always came.
"I'll start, then." He smiled and pulled her closer.
His arm toppled out of its socket, crimson spraying the snow below them. The bandit's eyes were wide with disbelief as he fell from his steed.
Eilis sighed; Such destruction only one man was capable of. The monstrous hyren that still held her aloft was rammed in the ribs by another huge beast. Eilis was thrown from her prison into the snow. She instinctively curled up into a ball and rolled around until her body came to a complete stop.
A shadowy figure approached the bandit silently and the blade of a twisted halberd swooped across his neck like a bird of prey. His head tumbled away from his pedestal and into the snow. His body landed in a crumpled heap beside his dismembered head.
"Eilis?" A tall magi wound his way around the fallen bandit to her side. She was still curled up in a ball and winced as he touched her shoulder. "It's okay; They're gone now."
She did not move nor respond to him.
"You're still angry with me?" Baine pressed his palm into his forehead. "I apologized two days ago, dearest."
"You said you'd stay here." Eilis uttered through a sniffle and a sob. "I was so scared! I thought they were going to kill me."
"It's all right, now. I'm here." Baine gently lifted her shivering body up into his big arms.
"Are you going to stay this time?" She asked earnestly, her voice still quaking.
"Of course." He leaned over and caressed her frigid cheek. "As a matter of fact, I'm taking you with me this time."
"Guum-guuuum?" Eilis's small gum-gum emerged from the shelter of its mistress's top. Baine stared down at it and feigned jealousy.
"How come he gets to lay down there? You won't even let me sneak a glance." Baine mounted his large Rift Hyren and wrapped Eilis up in her cloak.
"He was frightened. He had to hide somewhere." Eilis pulled the tiny creature out of her top and placed him in her lap.
"That's it." Baine pulled her back into his embrace and brushed her golden hair to the side, exposing her porcelain neck to the elements. He ran his fingers along the curve and grinned. He leaned over again and whispered an outlandish suggestion into her ear.
"You're worse than those bandits!" She pushed his face away and clapped her hands over her ears.
"Ah, but I love you and they did not. Who was it that rescued you?" He nipped at the skin on her neck and growled.
"Stop biting me!" Eilis swatted at his face.
"Then reward me already." He dodged her small fists and let her hair fall back onto her shoulders.
"I will when I am ready to." She spoke plainly and stared straight ahead.
"I'm very impatient. You should know this by now. May I kiss you?" He coiled an arm around her waist and smiled, waiting for her reply.
"If that is what you wish." Eilis pulled his gloved hand to her face and pressed his warm fingers up against her frozen lips.
"With pleasure..." Baine tilted her head skyward and slid his lips over hers affectionately. He took full advantage of her position and became aggressive, forcing his tongue into her open mouth. He was ecstatic. It had been a long time since his last romantic encounter with her. He was going to get what he could out of this one.
Eilis did not seem to mind his rapid advances. She squeaked and pushed on his chest when he became too rough.
Huffs of frozen breath were quickened into grunts of excitement as Baine's hands started to misbehave. The left had crept its way up into her skirt on her thigh. Eilis became perturbed and beat on his chest.
"I'm sorry. I got a little carried away there." He finally tore his lips away from her face and laughed nervously. "Well, did you enjoy that?"
His companion's face was aglow with embarassment. Apparently, she had enjoyed every minute of it.
