A lesson in stick

Aug 19, 2005 11:06

So, I must say, the funniest thing EVER is me trying to learn how to drive stick. Yeah, that's right. Me. And it was my idea too, go figure. So this morning my dad and I are out on business and he says, you know why don't you drive the car on the way back home? And I'm like, sure, no problem, it can't be that hard. Ha. This is how that driving ( Read more... )

Yeah, dad's methods were more, heeeey let's see what you can do on the main roads after you drove around this parking lot once! Ok fine, so it wasn't the big scary main roads, but the route we take to get back from church (was the church parking lot, fyi). And I'll try not to hit anything (was in nice BMW convertable too aaah).

And you know what you can do with that parking brake? I'd say at this point I'd take even the embarrassing parking break moments, but...you'd never let me live it down if I did it again. Not that you are letting me live it down now. Miss you. ♥

I can just picture this scenario and its making me laugh. Keep it up! I had to learn to drive while learning to drive stick at the same time. The mental scarring might be healing at last! ugggg cant wait for school to start!

uggggh I can't wait for school to start either (obviously). When do you head back?

And I now feel really bad for anyone that had to learn to drive stick and learn to drive at the same time!! I had it EASY.

Well, if it makes you feel any better - that BMW probably has a transmission designed for a sports car rather than a normal car. First gear is notoriously picky and needs LOTS of gas (my car does this as does ridicu_Liz's.

I had to take my original driving test in a stick as our only car had one. My mom took me up to the parking lot at Weber State's basketball arena and made sure I had the basics down. THEN she took me into the neighborhoods on the mountain so I would learn how to clutch properly on a hill. I had to be a quick study as my mom's patience level is well....low.

AM excited for you to go back to school too!! Och Tamale!!

GAZOLLY GAZUMP!!

Yeah, it's funny trying to learn. I'm personally in favor of the parking lot practice sessions too, but dad seems to favor sink or swim methods. I'm going to get these gears and shifting and clutch stuff down. Otherwise I'll be made fun of by the younger brother who is going to be a freshman and thinks he knows everything. Haha.

Oh, and you get extra love just because! ♥ ♥ ♥!!!

YAY!!! Extra love!! *LOVES BACK*

Odd gears are up, even gears are down. Reverse is traditionally in the lower right.

Hope that helps!!

So, I may be on crack, but Julie said I have to go with her to Lumos 2006. This is the part where you, like, give me your blessing or something. O.o

I'll tell you more about it tomorrow when I talk to you, I guess. *saves money*

I'm giving you a look. Yes. THAT look.

Grab your broom, set your Portkey, or prepare to Apparate!

Hahahaha, that is the lamest thing I've read all day. Dude, that's like a year away?

Julie said I'm supposed to fly to LA and drive up with her.

It sounds like fun, man! And yeah, it's like forever away. But. But. But. :>
