Top Ten Male Characters

Mar 15, 2016 22:18

Once again emulating 12_12_12, I offer my Top 10 Male Characters with the same rules as in My Top 10 Female Characters entry.

I got a little more carried away on finding quotes. It was particularly a labor of love for Don Draper, Tony Soprano, and Jed Bartlet. Unlike 12_12_12, I don't have the artistic sensibilities to come up with my own picpsam so I just ( Read more... )

west wing: paranoid berkley shiksa femin, mad men: born alone and you die alone, sopranos: the telltale moozadelle, btvs/ats: rogue demon hunters, homeland: i spy something..., don draper: the hobo code, wesley: made of the humanest of parts!

I always love reading your fandom posts because you have a unique take on everything. You're fab! Love the Xander and Wesley quotes you chose.

Ooh, I'm so jealous of you getting to experience Rome for the first time (and later The Sopranos!). I eagerly await any posts on the subject!

Don Draper's dialogue is such an embarrassment of riches. I had such a tough time narrowing down favorite (but underrated) quotes. I had aspirations of having a representative of his conversations with Betty, Roger, Pete, Peggy, Sally. It didn't work out that way- but yeah I had like three Don/Roger excerpts because they're such dirty, twisted fun. THE TRUE LOVE STORY OF THE SHOW, TBH- keeping each other company with their stunted emotions and purposefully crippled livers.

OH MY GOD THE ENTIRE SECTION ON GEORGE COSTANZA. :DDD I love shows that can be witty and dramatic and touching about people just... being people. Also the very real, very human absurdities and trivialities of everyday life. Seinfeld is such a good example of that. And even though they're very different characters, I feel like George and Xander (and to a lesser extent, Topher--and Michael Scott from your Honorable Mentions ( ... )

Hey sorry for not commenting sooner, I had that presentation on Wednesday and then I have written a few thousand words on Forever and have only FINISHED up to act one, so (though I have written a lot about 2-4!).

Don, Walt, Wesley, George, Xander, Topher: yes.

Also yes to Niles, Pete, Lester, McNulty, Tyrion, Michael. Basically all the characters from the shows I've actually watched.

I've tried to respond on The Body but my brain isn't producing particularly good insights. Hence, the listicle nature of my LJ output. I want to do fandom- but I think my job is burning out my analytical side. Your reviews tend to inspire me- so I'm looking forward to your Forever thoughts.

Yay to having favorite characters in common!

"The Body" is not an easy episode to meta about, really. I actually do have thoughts but right now "Forever" is turning out to be how long my meta on that episode is going to be, so I should hold off on The Body for now. I credit you on my absurdly extensive exegesis on the Willow-Tara-Dawn dorm room resurrection conversation, which you might disagree on some of the conclusions of (though maybe not, since I still criticize Tara's handling an awful lot, in ways realted to things you've said).

[ooh there's a pretty rainbow outside, it's like a rainbow *on* cloud, man I wish I could paint, I wouldn't even have to use that many colours, just like seven plus white. I'm on a train.]

Roger: You know, it's very interesting, but a lot of times you think people are looking at you, but they're not. Their mind's elsewhere.
Don: Lots of people that haven't taken LSD already know that, Roger. -- one of my all-time favourites

I look forward to reading it. I will say that I'm quite critical of Willow's irresponsible, deceitful, cowardly conduct in Forever. I just fervently argue that her fault wasn't dissenting from Tara or anything that she actually said to Dawn or her starting position that information on the mechanics of resurrection could soothe Dawn and sate her anxieties that not enough was done. I think I'll PM you with a personal story- but I, personally, feel even more strongly in that position. However, it's probably the storyline where I like Willow least in the first five seasons. I don't what you think I'll disagree with- but this is one instance where I find a lot to criticize about Willow's conduct but just in specific areas ( ... )
