Summary: An upstanding junior officer in the Royal Navy with a bright future ahead of him, Cho Kyuhyun's world was upturned and thrown into disarray when he wakes to find his town burning and a pirate ship on the horizon.

Prologue
A chill wind blew, carrying the scent of warm dinners and the tinkling sound of laughter far offshore, weaving about the dark and waiting shadows. In the seemingly bottomless waters of the bay, a lone ship bobbed to and fro, gently swaying with each dip and swell of the cold sea.
Upon the ship's deck crouched a line of men, hidden in the shadows. They sat, silent, their hands resting readily on the hilts of their blades as their lowered black pirate banner flickered in the wind, nearly invisible in the deepening night.
One of the shadows stood, slim and sensual, lifting a spy-glass to his eye and peering at the glittering lights before them, reflected prettily in the waves. A stone fountain in the center square, proud horses tossing their heads decorating the grand landmark. A high archway as a monument at the entrance of the town, the path running far into the hills beyond. A statue of some naval figure with noble bearing guarding the docks, gazing gravely, fearlessly out to sea. And... an elegant, white house, further inland than most, surrounded by poplar trees, a ghostly beacon in the night. A pretty town, glowing with life under the clear night sky.
Yes, this was the right town.
“I see it.” The shadow breathed, and reddened lips curled into a smoky, eager smile. His companions stilled utterly. “White, beyond the square, past the smithy. A lovely building, really. Such a pity.”
A second figure stood, all long limbs and bright teeth flashed in response, a wide smile. “Want me to get him?”
“Sure,” the first said as he wrapped a scarf around his long hair, “do what you want, Seasoning.”
A third man of solid build rose, taking the spy-glass and holding it to his face. “Don't take too long. I don't want to bleed for this.” The spy-glass swept over the town. “Naval quarters a few buildings east of the docks. We'll want to be quiet until we get past that. Maybe we could lock them in somehow? Oh, but the shops to the west look like they'll burn nicely.”
Quiet chuckles filled the air for a moment, and then all was still again. Waiting.
At last, the remaining embers were extinguished, doors closed, the final echoes of laughter dying in the air as the seaside town bade the world goodnight.
Smiles spread on the faces of each of the men, dark and predatory, blades unsheathed eagerly, the sleek sound of metal sliding in the air.
“Let's go.”
