With Kakashi and Sakura, it’s the little things that count the most.

Sakura knows that their relationship is veering a bit on the unconventional side - 14 year age gap, the relationship of ex student and sensei (not to mention his status as Konoha’s biggest perv; after Jiraiya, of course). But she also knows that when it comes down to it, none of that matters.

All that matters is right now. Living in the present - living in the moment, with Kakashi.

To the villagers, they might be just the odd pair strolling down the street; but to Sakura, there’s something so special, words cannot do it justice.

i. She appreciates the fact that even though he loves her, he won’t give her shortcuts in her career, or use his status to her advantage. To her, that’s a type of acknowledgement - that she’s finally strong enough to fend for herself, and like everyone else, she has to work for what she wants. It gives her a feeling of finality (because finally, she’s gotten that recognition she’s been looking for ever since her genin days).

ii. She loves the way he loves her - the feeling of adoration she gets. But it’s not the attention she really loves - the only thing she really needs is to know that he does care, and that he does indeed, love her too. And unlike her past relationships, Kakashi has shown her that he does care, and that he’s willing to fight for her. And that’s all Sakura needs to know to love him wholeheartedly, and to trust him completely.

iii. Everyone has flaws, and she doesn’t expect Kakashi to be perfect - because he’s not. She hates more than anything in the world (possibly even more than Orochimaru and Akatsuki) that he doesn’t take care of himself, that he usually comes back battered and barely alive. To her, that’s the hardest thing - having to push everything she has into saving him, knowing that one day, that strong heart of his will stop beating in the operation room because it’s just too late.

iv. However unbelievable, Sakura (secretly) doesn’t mind that he reads his orange covered smut all the time. In their spare time, his book collection proves to be quite the source for entertainment - especially when they have time to test out a few of the scenes in Jiraiya’s masterpieces.

v. Superficial or not, Sakura is still a girl with tonnes of hormones raging through her small petite body. Even with her firm beliefs of looking past the outside and seeing the person within (a belief she adapted after years wasted on crushing after the infamous Uchiha survivor), she can’t help but admire the toned body Kakashi’s obtained from a lifetime of shinobi work, and the flawless face he hides behind the always present mask.

If Sakura believes their relationship is unconventional, Kakashi’s feelings are tenfold that. It’s not because he doesn’t love her - quite the contrary, it’s because he loves her too much. Kakashi wants her to have a normal life, a normal love affair. Something she most definitely would not get with him. He was a) too likely to die in the next few years, b) much too old, and c) not exactly the type to be in an ‘epic romance’.

But still, like every other human being, Kakashi has his selfish moments. It’s the only deadly sin he hardly ever commits (he can count the number of times with the fingers on his left hand) - greed, and he doesn’t regret it one bit.

vi. Because she’s the one that understands him the most in the world. She’s not like other girls, who will cling on to him as if for dear life, and try to swipe his wallet while he’s too busy prying her off. Sakura, on the other hand, understands that he needs some time alone occasionally. Mainly speaking, he’s not ready to share his morning visits to the memorial with anyone, but she understands. It’s not because he doesn’t love her. He just needs time, and she knows that.

vii. It’s a feeling he hasn’t felt in a long time - the feeling of being wanted, being loved, and being cared for. It’s one of the things he thanks every deity he knows (even know he’s not a religious man) every night for - the fact that she’s still here with him. That she hasn’t left him - and for the first time in decades, he’s no longer alone anymore. And that, is a miracle in itself.

viii. He loves the fact that even though she doesn’t know the first thing about cooking, she still tries her best to cook him a homemade meal. It’s all to help him feel more at home, because that’s just how much she loves him - and he can’t even begin to tell her how much he appreciates everything she does.

ix. When he says he loves her, he loves all of her. The whole package - not just the nice, sugar coated things. Along with her positive attributes, he loves every single one of her flaws too. Admittedly, he loves her fiery temper the most - because when she’s in one of her rampaging moods, her cheeks flush a bright pink, and her body glows with the strong burst of emotion she feels. Because then, he thinks she looks more beautiful than ever (except when she’s naked and covered in sweat beneath him, of course).

x. There’s all that, and there’s the way they just seem to mould together perfectly. The way, when she sleeps, she curls unconsciously into him, her small body fitting perfectly next to his bigger, leaner body, and he has a chance to admire his beautiful pink haired lover, occasionally stealing a kiss. With her curled into his arms at night, Kakashi feels a sense of peace he’s never felt before. Bliss.

Because with Kakashi and Sakura, it’s not about money and show - because really, they have none of that. They’re not like Ino and Sasuke, who threw the biggest wedding Konoha’s ever seen, followed by spending a fortune restoring the Uchiha district to its previous glory and more.

With Kakashi and Sakura, all they have is each other, and for them, that’s enough.
