Photobucket advertises 99.9% uptime, and offers 500MB free storage (was 1 GB, but they lowered it to 500mb 19-AUG-2009). This reduction of storage space frustrated users, who were locked out of adding new images to their accounts unless they agreed to pay the upgrade fee. (10 GB with paid PRO account), 10GB (was 100GB but went to 25GB in July 2008 and down to 10GB on August 19, 2009) free monthly bandwidth.

this shouldn't have affected me unless it was due to hotlinking, i use that account solely for icons and make perhaps 2-3 batches per month? People are just lazy.

Thank you for the information though.

I wonder what percentage of the 1,442 members of this community hotlink. We all have the huge, bold idiots message on our friends page now. I hope this message works and make whoever's doing it stop doing it.

I've always saved the images...from the start that was the only way I knew how to go about things. But--as stupid as this sounds--when I first started collecting icons a couple of years ago I had no idea what "hotlinking" meant. I kept meaning to ask someone, then I'd get busy and forget. I'll bet a year went by with me saving icons and just by luck not breaking the rules.

I'm sure a high number of the people hotlinking are lazy assclowns, but maybe some of the people genuinely don't get it? Maybe they really don't get what "hotlinking" and "bandwidth" mean. Oh- I also had no idea what icon makers meant by "credit"ing when I first started collecting them. I credited the first few makers whose icons I collected in my PROFILE ^^;;; Luckily I stumbled across a maker who spelled it all out, including formatting, in one of her posts. It all seems to obvious now, but it really isn't at first.

Sorry for the novel (and for your frustrations) and thank you for working so hard to make a great community.

I don't get how people can be so lazy. D= Being too lazy to take thirty seconds to upload something yourself is like... I dunno, being too lazy to shake somebody's hand yourself and being like, 'oh, don't worry! Somebody else uploaded the image shook your hand! It still counts!'
