[fic] VF drabble: Mommy

Feb 01, 2007 22:21

Title: Mommy
Rating: PG
Spoilers: none
Warnings: angst, from Feilong's childhood

Notes: Another fic for Feilong, this time just a tiny thing. This is pretty sad but it's pugpugsley's fault for talking about his mother. I'm very sorry to give this birthday drabble to Feilong. ;_;

You have your mother's hair Feilong. It's beautiful. Don't ever cut it.

"Mommy?" He looked at the picture on the wall and reached for it with a tiny hand that was captured in a bruising grip.

"She's not your mother. Your mother was a whore. This is my mother. My mother was Daddy's wife. I have Mother's hair, but Daddy never notices me like that. He only notices you, the whore's son."

He didn't understand why his brother was mad. "What's a whore, Yan?"

Yan's face filled with fury. "A whore is all she was good enough to be, and it's all you're good enough to be. Maybe if you're lucky, I'll buy you myself someday."

Buy him? A present? It was his birthday. His face lit with a shy smile. "You'll buy me something? Thank you, Yan. I don't deserve a brother like you."

He tried to hug his brother, but was shoved away.

"You don't deserve any of this! And yet you come in here and take it all. And you don't even understand that no one wants you here, no one at all. Go back to the gutters where you belong!" Yan knocked him down, then ran away, crying.

I don't belong here?

He looked at the picture of the woman on the wall, the woman who was not his mommy. Where was his mommy? Was she something bad? Was he something bad? Tears started to well up in his eyes.

"Feilong. What has happened? Why was your brother crying?"

He didn't say anything, because he didn't want to hear Daddy say the same thing. He just looked up into his daddy's face and hoped that he would hear something that made it better. Where do I belong, Daddy? With you, don't I? You want me, don't you?

"You really shouldn't fight with your brother, Feilong. He hasn't had it easy, with his mother dying this year."

He bowed his head. He understood. "Yes sir."

"Come along now. You shouldn't be crying today of all days. It's your birthday, isn't it? Perhaps the cook has some treat prepared for you. Shall we see?"

"Yes sir."

"How about a smile then?"

But he couldn't smile, because he finally understood. He was just like Mommy.
