I know how that goes. My birthday is August 22nd, which was on the 2nd day of classes this past year. Nobody knew me, so it was awful.

I don't know if I can put any input in... I'd say go for a Friday, because that way you have all weekend to recover.

On the other hand, having your party before your birthday would kind of suck because then when the actual date gets there you're all celebrated out.
