Practice makes perfect, ch 12 B

Donghae looked up to him from the floor. “I wanted to see you.” He said simply. Well, it’s not completely a lie but it’s not completely a truth either.

“I thought I told Sungmin to spread the word that I don’t want to see anyone.”

“I heard something like that. And that’s why I wanted to see you.” Donghae said. Carefully he got up to his shaky legs, hoping they wouldn't betray him now. Eunhyuk reminded silent. He only looked out and stood still. “What’s wrong?” Donghae asked and leaned to the bedpost.

“Donghae, go home.” That hurt…! Donghae was stunned. He couldn’t bring up anything to say. Instead of using words he walked to Eunhyuk, wrapping his arms around the other.

“I don’t want to.” He said and gently placed his jaw onto Eunhyuk’s shoulder. But for Donghae’s surprise the other flinched away at the same moment his jaw touched him. “Hyukkie?” He questioned but the other didn’t say anything.

“Your eyebrow is bleeding.” Eunhyuk muttered quietly. He pressed a button of his phone on the night stand. “Mr. Lee, could you bring here some blasters, please.” He spoke to the phone. There was an answer that promised to bring the blasters right away.

Donghae’s mouth was as open as it could be. “Hyukkie, what’s wrong with you?” No answer. “Did I do something?” He asked again.

“N-no… you-“

"Is it because of the kiss?" Donghae kept on asking.

"No!...yes… I-" The door swung open and pretty old man came to the room.

“You asked for the blasters, young master.” He said.

“Thank you, Mr. Lee.” Eunhyuk said to the butler as he put the blasters to the side table, then bowed and left them alone again.

“Eunhyuk, talk to me.” Donghae demanded. He was sick and tired to Eunhyuk’s act. He still hadn’t seen Eunhyuk’s face even though they had been in the same room for over ten minutes. The worry was growing inside of him and he was getting frustrated. He missed his Hyukkie already and he couldn’t stand it anymore. He lost the last piece of his patience when Eunhyuk still didn’t talk to him and kept on avoiding him.

“Lee Hyukjae. I'm talking to you.” Donghae said. He didn’t even try to hid the frustration and anger in his voice. He took the few needed steps forward so that he was right behind Eunhyuk and grabbed him by his shoulder, spinning him around. And he finally saw his face.

Donghae’s eyes widened in shock. Eunhyuk lowered his face, trying to hid behind the curtain of his hair but Donghae didn’t let him do it. He tried to be as gentle as he could when he lifted Eunhyuk’s face up with his index finger.

“Who did this?” He gasped in shock. Eunhyuk’s face was covered in bruises, he had a big bruise around his right eye, and a scab in his lip.

“Don’t…” Eunhyuk whispered and turned his face away, trying to get away from Donghae but the latter didn’t let him go. It hurt him to see Eunhyuk like that. How could someone do something like that?! Donghae was sure that there were bruises all over Eunhyuk’s body but the dancer was wearing a turtleneck-shirt that had long sleeves and jeans so he couldn’t really be sure. But he had seen enough bruises on Eunhyuk’s face to make his blood boil in his veins.

“Who did that?” Donghae asked again, gritting his teeth together, trying to gather himself and not to run out of that door and beat up everyone he saw. His hands were shaking, he had totally forgotten the pain in his stomach and the bleeding cut on his eyebrow.

“Donghae…” Eunhyuk said quietly and turned around to face his love. “Don’t do this… not now.” He pleaded. Donghae looked into his eyes, not believing what he was seeing. Eunhyuk’s eyes were tearing as he looked away again and sat on the bed. Donghae couldn’t bring himself to do anything reasonable, he just stood there, mouth all open.

“I-I can’t tell you.” Eunhyuk whispered. His voice was trembling and a tear escaped and dropped to the floor. Donghae swallowed a lump in his throat before he also sat down on the bed, right next to Eunhyuk, who had lowered his head to his hands. Donghae sighed and placed his hand on Eunhyuk’s back. He didn’t dare to move it, though, too afraid that he would hurt Eunhyuk even more.

“Yes, you can.” Donghae said, his voice soft and gentle. “You can tell me everything.”

“Hae… I really can’t tell you.” Eunhyuk said and let out a little sob. Donghae didn’t know what to do or say. He wanted to comfort his Hyukkie, he wanted to cure all those bruises. And he wanted to take a revenge. No one, no one, had a right to hurt Eunhyuk without getting a lesson from Donghae.

They sat there for a long while, Eunhyuk leaning his head to Donghae's chest and sobbing quietly while Donghae was soothing him and telling him that everything would be just fine. He didn't pressure Eunhyuk to tell him what had happened anymore. He was pretty sure that Eunhyuk would tell him everything when he was ready.

The sun was already settling down when Donghae realized that Eunhyuk had stopped sobbing. The room was quiet and the sun was painting beautiful colors onto the walls. Two birds were flying in front of the big window, a couple that was probably ready to go to their nest and fall asleep after a long day. The scene made a small smile appear on Donghae's lips as he watched the birds flying away and disappearing to the evening sun.

Donghae looked to the boy leaning to him. He realized that Eunhyuk was sleeping peacefully against his chest. His shirt was a bit wet after Eunhyuk's tears and he could see the trails of tears on Eunhyuk's cheeks. Donghae couldn't believe how peaceful the other one looked even though his face was covered with numerous bruises. Still he was gorgeous as his bangs fell to cover half of his face.

Carefully not to wake Eunhyuk up, Donghae laid him down on the bed and lifted the covers so that he could get him under them. He didn't dare to strip Eunhyuk off of his clothes. He didn't want Eunhyuk to think that he was some kind of perv creep so he simply just pulled the blanket over Eunhyuk's body.

He watched the dancer for a moment before he got up from the bed, put a blaster over the cut on his eyebrow, and walked out of the room. The hallway was empty and Donghae decided to find that old butler. He wanted to talk to him because he seemed to be the one Eunhyuk would rely on. Maybe he knew what had happened.

It took him a while as he went through every room in the upstairs, not finding the old butler. When he had checked all the rooms he decided to go downstairs where he found a huge living room, kitchen and a dining room. But no old butler anywhere. Aish… Seriously?!

He was about to return to the kitchen and ask someone if they had seen the butler he was looking for but as he was going through the big entry hall and pass the staircase, he heard someone yelling his name.

"Donghae!" The said boy turned to look at Eunhyuk who was standing in the middle of the staircase. He looked like he had been scared of something that would happen to Donghae and he heard it from the dancer's voice.

"I thought you were sleeping." Donghae said and jumped a few steps up so that he was only one step lower than Eunhyuk who was standing on the half way of the staircase. Eunhyuk smiled a little.

"I was but I woke up to the heat." Donghae let out a laugh. Of course there had been too hot for him to sleep with all those clothes on and the cover over his body. "And I was afraid that you had left already." Eunhyuk added. Donghae couldn't help getting surprised, in a positive way.

"I wouldn't have left without telling you." Donghae smiled warmly. It seemed to calm Eunhyuk a bit more and his smile got wider.

"What are you doing here anyway? Wandering around…" Eunhyuk asked and looked curiously around as if trying to find something that would be interesting in Donghae's mind. Donghae just shrugged and told him he was just looking around. Eunhyuk only mouthed "oh" before they fell into silence -which was broken by the old butler Donghae had been looking for.

"Young Master. The dinner is served." He paused before he gave the duo a smile. "For your friend too."

"Thank you, Mr. Lee." Eunhyuk said and nodded, telling him he was free to go. When he had gone to the direction where their dining room was, Eunhyuk turned to Donghae. "You must be hungry. You've been here for a while already." Donghae just laughed at Eunhyuk's sarcasm as he followed him to the dining room.

After they had eaten Eunhyuk asked Donghae back to his room. Donghae looked at his watch and cursed because it was quite late already. His mom and Soo man would be really mad at him after he ran away and then wouldn't come home before mid night. There was no way he wanted to go but he knew it would be best if he was at home already.

"Hyukkie… I should go home. My mom will be worried if I don't show up soon." Donghae said even though he didn't want to. Eunhyuk's mood seemed to go down at the same time as he lowered his head. But then a smile appeared to his plump lips and he lifted his gaze to look at Donghae.

"You can spend the night here."

"It's school tomorrow." Donghae said quickly. He felt sorry as Eunhyuk's smile faded a bit.

"It's no problem. We can go and get your school stuff from your place." Eunhyuk tried. He practically begged Donghae to stay. As he was about to protest again, Eunhyuk looked at him in the eyes. "Please…" His eyes were tearing again. How could Donghae say no to him now?!

~~~
I don't think this will work… Donghae thought as he sat on the back seat of the Mercedes. Eunhyuk was sitting next to him, wearing sun glasses even though it was dark outside and the windows of the car were black so that no one could see what was inside the car. Mr. Lee was driving and Donghae was giving him driving directions even though they could have used the GPS navigator on the dashboard.
They were at Donghae's house in a second. Donghae got up from the car but before he closed the door he bent down and said to Eunhyuk. "I'm not sure if I can come. I don't know what my mom will think about this."
"Oh, don't worry. I will come inside if you won't get the permission otherwise." He gave Donghae a smile that resembled a smirk more than his usual cute smile. Donghae laughed at him a little, too nervous to say anything, and then he was already walking to the front door.
The door was locked, of course, so he had to ring the door bell because he had thrown the key to the door step right after he had gotten out. He was sure Eunhyuk would ask him later why he hadn't used his keys. Fortunately he didn't have to wait long before the door was opened by Hara who looked at Donghae like he had been an angel or something as unbelievable.
"Where have you been?" She asked quietly.
"At my friend's place. Where's mom?" Donghae answered and pushed the door more open so that he could walk in.
"She's in the living room. Why?" Hara asked as she walked right behind Donghae. He didn't bother to answer and just walked straight to the living room. He found his mom sitting on one of the arm chairs, reading some magazine. Donghae walked to her and stopped, waiting for her to lift her gaze to him.
"Mom, I need to talk to you." Donghae said when she finally looked at her son. "Privately." He added. She lifted her eyebrows, surprised because Donghae really didn't usually want to talk about something with her and after Soo man and Hara moved there they had changed barely couple of friendly words.
"Oh… Okay." She said and put the magazine to the side table and stood up. Donghae followed her to her and Soo man's bedroom in silence and closed the door after himself.
She sat on the edge of big bed in the room and, when Donghae had seated too, she turned to look at him. "What is it that you want to talk about?"
Donghae didn't know where to start. He took a deep breath and blew the air out before he opened his mouth. "Umma, I know I've acted horribly." He paused to see his mom's reaction. She didn't show any kind of emotions on her face and just seemed to be waiting what he really had to say. "And I'm sorry for that." Pause again but the small silence was broken by his mother.
"I know that. And I forgive you." She said and gave him a smile. It encouraged Donghae to smile a bit too before he spoke again.
"But I want you to know that I won't do anything to change that if they don't do anything to change it."
"I know that too. And I have spoken with them already, while you were away." His mom said. She then got up from the bed. Donghae was ready to jump up and tell her he wasn't finished yet but when he her walking to her dresser he kept his mouth shut. "And I want to give you the key to the front door." She said and took the key from the drawer.
"Thank you." Donghae said as she sat back down onto the bed and gave the key to Donghae.
"But I want to make sure that I will take that away if you keep on running away without telling me." She said as a warning and Donghae knew he should really listen to her.
"Mom, I'm really thankful. But this wasn't what I really wanted to talk about." Donghae said and gave her an apologetic smile. She looked a bit surprised. It looked like she hadn't expected him wanting to talk about something else than the key. "I'd like to spend a few nights at one of my friends."
Well that was new. Donghae had never asked her if he could spend a few nights out… well, only when he was a little child. But for years he had just kissed her onto her cheek and told her where he would be and when he would come back home. Donghae knew that himself too and he wasn't surprised when his mom cracked her eyebrow.
"Why are you asking for a permission?" She asked.
"Because it's Monday tomorrow, I have school and the friend I'm talking about is Eunhyuk."
"Eunhyuk?" She asked. Donghae could already hear her voice trembling a little. She might not know who Eunhyuk exactly was but she had pretty much guessed it from the way Donghae had asked her. "Is he the one you…?" She let her voice fade away but Donghae knew what she meant.
"The one I kissed, yes." Donghae said, helping her to finish the sentence, but he was also a bit irritated.
"No." His mother said curtly.
"But mom, he needs someone to take care of him." His mother shot him a death clear, questioning at the same time. "He… something bad happened." Donghae said. He didn't want to tell her Eunhyuk got beaten up. It wasn't a subject he wanted her  to take a hold of.
"He has his parents to take care of him."
She stood up and was already making her way to the door. Donghae didn't even try to stop her. He knew it was worthless. There was no way she would change her mind and even though Donghae had put against her many times he wasn't stupid and start a fight. It would just make his life worse.
She was about to press down the handler of the door when there was a silent knock on the door. Donghae's head snapped towards it and his mother literally froze before she opened the door. If everything had seemed to be impossible a few seconds ago, it wasn't anymore.
Eunhyuk was standing in the doorway, wearing his sun glasses that covered half of his face but the bruises on his chin were visible. Donghae looked at him for a moment before he turned his gaze back to his mom. She was staring at Eunhyuk, actually his chin and the cut on his lip, totally frozen.
"Hello, Mrs. Lee." Eunhyuk said with a small smile. "I guess you remember me." He said. She hemmed a little, disgust on her face. And then Eunhyuk did something Donghae couldn't have thought he would: he took off his glasses and looked directly into Mrs. Lee's eyes.
"Hyuk!" Donghae yelped and jumped up from the bed. His mother's reaction was quite the same but she didn't say anything. Her eyes widened in shock as she saw his black eyes and all the other bruises the glasses had covered.
"I'm fine, Hae." Eunhyuk said and smiled at him, silently telling him not to panic. Then he turned back to Donghae's mom and spoke to her again. "I was hoping you would give Hae a permission to spend a night, or more, at my place. I don't know how much Donghae told you, but after this happened…" He pointed to his face. "…I would appreciate company."
How can he be so mature?! …telling all this so calmly and with such a confidence. Donghae thought as he looked at the scene in front of him with his mouth open. He had to admit that he hadn't expected Eunhyuk to do anything like that even though he had said that he would come in if Donghae didn't get the permission otherwise.
Donghae's mother didn't show any kind of reactions so Eunhyuk decided to keep on talking. "My parents are in Europe right now and it's quite lonely being in the big house all alone when my sister is in Busan with her boyfriend."
Well, she was so wrong with that part then. Donghae thought as Eunhyuk closed his mouth again. There was a moment of total silence before Donghae's mother took deep breath.
"Could you… leave us for a moment?" She said to Eunhyuk, who bowed lightly and closed the door after himself. She waited until the door was shut before she turned to face her son. She didn't say anything, just looked at him.
Donghae felt awkward as she looked at him, from head to toe, in silence. He didn't know what was going on in her mind. He didn't know what to say or do so he just waited for her to break the silence in the room. And she did, after a long minute.
"So that's why you want to go to him…" It wasn't really a question, just a statement but Donghae felt an urge to answer anyway. He nodded and looked into her eyes, begging her to understand. Eunhyuk needed him, more than anyone else, and he wanted to be there for him.
I love him.
"I understand you." She said and then walked to Donghae. She pressed her hand on his shoulder and sat down, telling him to do so too. "But why him?" That question took Donghae by surprise. What does she mean? "Why do you have to be…gay?" She whispered the last word and Donghae almost jumped up. Tears were flowing down on her cheeks at the moment but Donghae couldn't care less.
"What?!" He asked. "Is that all you're worried about?!" When his mom turned her head away he decided to gather his all willpower and stay calm as he spoke. "Mom, you can't change it. You can't just take me to a psychologist and tell him to turn me hetero. And I can't just take you to psychologist and tell him to turn you lesbian. It just doesn't work like that. I can't tell that psychologist to make you fall in love with someone else than Soo man. It's impossible for a human to do." He thanked God his voice didn't let him down.
It took his mother a moment to understand what he had just said. She seemed to be really amazed by the words that came from Donghae's mouth. She didn't want to admit it, but he was right. All she could do was look from aside as her only son fell in love with another boy. She couldn't say no to him. If she did, it would break his heart but also her own heart when she would see him sad and down. How could she do such a thing? She couldn't. There's something that is called mother's love and it is something she couldn't deny, no matter what.
~~~

After talking with his mother for a moment Donghae opened the door of her bedroom and stepped into the hallway, holding the key in his fist. Eunhyuk was in the living room, sitting on the couch with Hara sitting on the other arm chair. Somehow the picture in front of Donghae was ironic, like really ironic. The two weren't talking anything. Eunhyuk was curiously looking around while Hara stared at him with a scary, yet disgusted, look in her eyes.

Both of them turned their attention to Donghae as he came to the room. He gave Eunhyuk a bright smile, telling him to follow him to his room and that he would pack something and then they could go.

"So you got the permission, or are you running away?" Eunhyuk asked as he sat on Donghae's bed, which Hara had taken over.

"Got the permission, you idiot." Donghae teased him as he jumped around the room, finding his night pants, school clothes, pair of clean jeans and a few wife-beaters and underwear. Eunhyuk laughed at him a little but was quickly up when Donghae ran out of the room. He barely made it to the door of Donghae's room when the other was there, holding his school bag, where he had stuffed everything, on his shoulder and looked like he was ready to go.

"Ready?" Eunhyuk asked and lifted his eyebrow questioningly.

"Oh! Toothbrush!" Donghae yelped and stormed to the bathroom. He was back in a second and smiled like a child to Eunhyuk. "Ready." He said.
