Siwan wasn’t someone who was able to express his feelings well. Most of the time, his words contradicted his genuine feelings and his actual thoughts. When Junyoung was appointed leader of the group, he smiled brightly and clapped cheerfully, congratulated his fellow member. However, in reality, he wanted to take Kwanghee’s diamond-studded belt and strangle him with it, have Hyungsik bite off every limb of his body with his shark teeth and then give the pieces to Kevin so that a few kangaroos could be fed the next time the Australian would head home. It wasn’t that he hated Junyoung, not at all- he was his fellow group member, and, as with the others, they were like brothers- it was mostly the fact he was more than confident he had it in the bag. Siwan was certain he was the most apt ZE:A member when it came to leading. Let’s not forget to mention his good looks, great personality and talent... Siwan chewed on his bottom lip in an annoyed manner. He rolled onto his back, placed his arms behind head, underneath his pillow, and let out a large sigh. This matter was irritating him more than usual.
“What’s wrong with you?” A familiar voice made him snap out of his thoughts. He looked up to see his best friend’s face. Kwanghee was staring down at him with a cocked eyebrow and curious face. Siwan shrugged nonchalantly. “Nothing,” he said simply.
“Don’t lie to me, Siwan-ah~”
“I’m not lying.”
Kwanghee frowned. “Is this about the whole leader thing again?”
It was creepy how his best friend knew him so well. Siwan pursed his lips. Kwanghee pushed him a little so he could lie down next to him. He turned onto his side as to face Siwan and propped himself up with the help of his elbow. “Why is this bothering you so much?”
“It’s not bothering me at all,” he replied coolly.
It was at times like these Kwanghee wished he could spray Febreeze in his Siwan’s face to get him to talk. It was annoying how the younger one would never disclose his qualms to anybody, not even his best friend. Was it because Siwan had trust issues? Did he not have enough faith in him? Were their many years of friendship just for show? Kwanghee heaved a sigh. Siwan, feeling slightly alarmed after that sigh, turned onto his side and supported himself up with the help of his arm as well. “What was that sigh for?”
“Nothing,” the older male answered with a babyish pout.
Siwan rolled his eyes. “Yeah, and I’m Son Dambi.”
“Well, then I’m Lee Hyori,” he retorted childishly.
“That was meant to be rhetorical.”
“It doesn’t mean I can’t answer!”
“The whole meaning of rhetorical is that you aren’t supposed to be able to answer.”
“But I just did, didn’t I?”
Siwan gaped at Kwanghee, dumbfounded, baffled, perplexed. Impossible to find a suitable comeback that wouldn’t make him sound stupid. He let out an annoyed groan and turned on his other side as to make his back face Kwanghee. Kwanghee smiled to himself and took the opportunity to swing his arm around the younger male’s thin waist. He pulled him close against his body and dug his face into Siwan’s neck. Siwan made no effort to push him away; on the contrary, he moved closer, closer, until there was not a single gap left between the two of them. Siwan closed his eyes. So did Kwanghee. Silence filled the room and soon the only thing they could hear was each other’s heartbeats. The older of the two moved his head close to the other’s and breathed a clumsy “I love you” against his ear. Siwan let out a contented, relaxed sigh. He wished from the bottom of his heart that, like a song stuck on replay, this instant could play again and again-no, that like a picture, this moment would last forever.
“I love you, too,” he said in a whisper, loud enough for his best friend to hear, but quiet enough to keep this a secret between just the two of them.
“You know,” Kwanghee started. Siwan turned to face the older man and asked ‘what is it’. “If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t vote for Junyoung to become leader.”
Siwan let a sincere smile creep its way onto his lips for the first time in a long time. “Really?”
“Yup,” he continued. “I voted for Kevin.”
The younger male’s mouth dropped open. Out of fury, he violently broke free from Kwanghee’s hold and sat up, crossing his arms atop his chest in the process, a pout adorning his lips. The older one let out a hardy, amused laugh. Siwan gave him a death glare. “I was only kidding! Of course, I was the only member to vote for you.”
“If I was gullible and witless, like you, I’d fall for that.”
“Oh come on, Siwan-ah~ I’m not kidding this time. I swear on my collection of LacVert makeup.”
Siwan softened his gaze and locked his eyes with Kwanghee’s. “Are you really serious?” The older male gave him a cheesy, somewhat sloppy, smile and nodded his head. Kwanghee sat up as well and made his arm snake around his best friend’s waist again. Siwan laid his head on the other’s shoulder and Kwanghee laid his on top of Siwan’s head.
“Even if it isn’t the outcome we wanted, I just want you to know that... in my heart, you’re the capable leader I’ll follow anytime, any day, and that it’ll always be like that.” Kwanghee turned and planted a small kiss on the top of Siwan’s head.
“Thank you,” Siwan replied. “And... I’m sorry.”
Kwanghee raised an eyebrow at him. “What for?”
“For being an ass. I love you."
Kwanghee smiled and held him tight, unwilling to ever let go. "I love you, too."
