PART 2
ALL ABOUT WRITING FANFICTIONS............................
TINA: How and when did you decide to be a fanfic author?
NAOMY: I started writing when I was 12 years old, so I guess it happened naturally.
TINA: What made you to sit down and actually write something?
NAOMY: I’m not the brightest person out there and people say I’m very negative towards a lot of stuff, so I decided to pour my feelings in a way nobody could know it was me. I bottled up a lot of things and it was my way of catharsis.
TINA: What is the first fanfic you completed?
NAOMY: Wow, it has been a long time haha but I think it was Crucify my love. My main language is actually Spanish so, guess what? It’s in Spanish!
TINA: How did you get your idea for your first fanfic?
NAOMY: Listening to a song, which its title is the same as my fan fic name. The lyrics say ‘crucify my love, if my love is blind’ and well, I imagined a guy in front of a tomb talking to his lover
TINA: Have you had any prior experience of writing before your first fanfic?
NAOMY:Nope.
TINA: Have you ever plagued by doubts on your storyline?
NAOMY: Yes, I’m actually trying to finish a YunJae fan fic called Amaranth and I’m absolutely having a million of doubts but I’ll make it happen somehow.
TINA: How did you promote your fanfic to readers?
NAOMY: I actually didn’t. I was very negative because English is not my main language so I wasn’t willing to try it. However, my bff convinced me and I just published it. It became well received so I’m happy about that.
TINA: Have you ever been anxious about how the readers receive your story?
NAOMY: Of course! And sometimes I even wonder if my story is worthy enough to keep them attracted.
TINA: Thoughts on how you felt when you see the first comment on the first story? Do remember who is the first commenter?
NAOMY: I didn’t feel anything because I didn’t publish that story.
TINA: How do you prepare yourself before writing a fanfic?
NAOMY: It just happens. I get a lot of inspiration reading fan fics and listening to songs so they mostly come from it.
TINA: Do you work out plot line or do you prefer to see where your ideas or inspiration take you?
NAOMY: Both. For a fic I did, my inspiration was from another fic, so I created half of the plot and later a lot of ideas came in so I changed a lot. But it does help having something to begin with.
TINA: When and how does your inspiration or muse come to you?
NAOMY: Alone at my home, when I’m sad or about to give up it kicks in. My readers tell me I’m too dramatic and angsty so haha that must be why.
TINA: What is the weirdest place you were struck by inspiration for your fanfic? Did you write the plot?If yes what is the title of the fanfic?
NAOMY: Actually none. I always get inspiration for a new story in my room.
TINA: How much research do you do for your story?
NAOMY: A lot! For me, is very important to know the facts and write them as real as you can. If it’s a fan fic that has medical terms, I search for them in a way I can understand and apply them in my fic. If it’s about law, I was a law student but law varies from country to country, so I read about that certain country’s law and write them in my fic. It all depends what type of fan fic I’m about to create.
TINA: What is the easiest part of writing?
NAOMY: Dialogue. It’s so easy for me to imagine two people talking deep topics and it just happens. It flows marvelously and that’s why you can see that, in my fics, there’s a lot of it.
TINA: What is the hardest part of writing a story?
NAOMY: Feelings. You have to portray the character’s feelings in a way the reader understands it and since English doesn’t have a lot of thesaurus, sometimes I feel like it’s not happening. In Spanish is so much easier because it’s my main language and there’s a lot of words you can say when you love someone, but in English there’s only one and is love. It’s difficult to explain but the thing is that to think in Spanish and write in English the same thing you are thinking gets complicated because it doesn’t turns out as you want to.
TINA: The writer’s worst nightmare the dreaded writer’s block.
When is the worst writer’s block you ever had? How did you overcome it?
NAOMY: This is a funny question because I have one right now and it’s, by far, the worst writer’s block I have ever had in my life. I’m doing my on-going fan fic and I don’t even know what else to do. I have been stuck for a while (almost a year) and I have been so willing to give up, but I see the chapters and how many pages I have written that the idea just comes out. That’s why I’m still trying my best to finish it but trust me, I still have it.
TINA: Any useful tips on how to overcome the writer’s block?
NAOMY: I haven’t overcome it completely but I think readers help. When they get excited and comment your fic, discuss the chapter with you and so on, makes you inspired and think ‘they must like it so I better finish it’. Also, listening to music, being alone in the room and not letting anyone disturb you. Reading helps as well.
TINA: Have you written any collaboration with other author’s? If yes name of the fanfic.
NAOMY: None, but I’m planning somewhere in the future with someone. A good friend of mine who writes YJ as well.
TINA: How do you describe your writing style? Do you think you have your own personal writing style?
NAOMY: Yes. I think everybody has their own writing style. We are clearly not equal but I don’t know how to describe it, though haha
TINA: How do you think you have evolved creatively throughout the years? Do you notice any change in the way you write?
NAOMY: Of course. I was very bad at writing in English and I have become better as time passed. This also helps me to improve my speech and so on.
TINA: How important are readers and their comments?
NAOMY: Very! They are the reason I still write.
TINA: I have been a silent reader for few months before taking the steps to comment..Any words for silent readers?
NAOMY: You encourage us and sometimes when we don’t see any comments in how much we improve or a simply thank you, it makes us feel disappointed. That’s why there’s a lot of people who put their fics in lj as friend only or in AFF as members/subs only. It still happens, but you have to understand that we appreciate ACTUAL people commenting and giving their thoughts about the stories. We write for pleasure, but we also do it for you and it’s difficult when we know silent readers don’t even bother to do such. So, I courage you all to start being less shy and support us!
TINA: Do you read other yunjae fanfics? If yes name of the fanfic you loved?
NAOMY: My absolutely favorite YunJae fan fic is "What Love Really Is"from miss_sanzo. If you guys haven’t read it, you should!
TINA: Are you friends with any other author’s?
NAOMY: Only dhaatk, haha. I don’t know authors because I’m shy so…
TINA: How do you make your stories standout when there are heaps of other stories with similar plot lines?
NAOMY: I think my stories are very creative and quite original so I guess that’s why people like them. I don’t do anything special to standout and I just promote if I have enough karma points (which has only been two times) so well… I don’t really know hahaha
TINA: Has anyone stole your story and published under their name?
NAOMY: As far as I know, it hasn’t happened! I’m glad though
TINA: Thoughts on others stealing your work?
NAOMY: None.
TINA: How do you manage your time between your daily activities and updating stories?
NAOMY: I have a lot of free time since I finished studying so, there’s no time to manage.
TINA: Do you have any favorite time of the day to write stories?
NAOMY: Mostly in the night.
TINA: your favorite genre to write?
NAOMY: Definitely angst.
ALL ABOUT STORIES:
TINA:Tell us about the inspiration behind this absolutely mindblowing fanfic “OXYMORON”?
NAOMY: Omg hahaha I totally knew there was going to be a question about this fic! Well, this is going to be LONG so be aware! I mostly do angst and I wanted to do something out of my usual angst-self. I started reading for the 7297942 time a fic named “Locked” by yuki-3 in LJ and this fic was my absolutely inspiration for starting Oxymoron. The synopsis was that Jaejoong was declared guilty for killing a guy (I won’t spoil it for you, guys!) and his time in prison with Yunho, a framed lawyer. I decided that, instead of making Jaejoong the Mary Sue, I wanted him to be badass and the guilty one, while making Yunho transform from a righteous person to a total douche. I wanted to make my characters strong, but faithful of their decisions and most importantly, I wanted to make them both BAD. I wanted them to be the antagonist of their own fate. I wanted everybody to be as filthy as they could and well, that’s when everything started.
TINA:Have you done any research for “OXYMORON”?
NAOMY: A lot. I’m a law student so I know about laws and prisons. However, in South Korea is a whole other issue, so I downloaded a PDF about Korean laws. It was translated to English so it was easy to read. I also didn’t know a lot about flight attendants or their job, so I had to search for that as well. There was a lot of research in cleaning crime scene and false impersonation (fraud) in order to explain what happened between them and a lot more.
TINA: tell us about the fanfic “REHEARSALS FOR SILENCE”.inspiration behind this fanfic?
NAOMY: This fic was after doing one of my own and reading “My Best Friend’s Boyfriend” by yani (it’s amazing, read it!). I made a fic for a friend and I liked the idea so I expanded it in Spanish while listening to IU’s song named “The Story I Only Didn’t Know”. This was the name of the fic until I decided to change it a year after I finish it. I always wanted to do a story surrounding forbidden love and ghosts, so I came with this. This is my fav ff so far.
TINA: Still writing or you stopped now?
NAOMY: Yeah! Currently writing Amaranth.
TINA'S NOTE:NAOMY HAS COMPLETED THE ABOVE FANFIC "AMARANTH"
TINA: Inspiration behind the fic"AMARANTH".thoughts, ideas and the amount of work done for it..share it with us.
NAOMY:The inspiration from Amaranth came mostly from Rooftop Prince. Ever since I saw that drama with Yoochun I wanted to do a fic with reincarnation as a main topic. Whoever, the idea was hidden in my mind because I began to work in Rehearsals for Silence and then Oxymoron. However, I convinced my boyfriend (now my husband) to see it with me. He loved it and the idea came to me once again, so I just went for it. Apart from the drama, music has always inspired me and Japan. I love Edo Period but I like Chinese hanfus. They were beautiful so I ended mixed them up. On the other hand, I have to admit that the amount of work was hideous. The original idea was completely different from what I wrote, but I'm glad I could finish. My thoughts changed from time to time as well and I definitely have different feelings towards the fan fic. Since it was so difficult to write for me due to the circumstances, they were times I wanted to give up and just delete it. However, my friends always told me to continue and that I would regret it if I did such action. They are right. I would have been completely mad to myself if I didn't finish this. It may seem rushed but it was the best I could come with. Now, I can be at peace with my readers and myself.
TINA: Any new fanfic ideas going on?
NAOMY: Just a vampire fic as a collab with another author but we don't know how or when it will happen. I'm taking a hiatus from chaptered stories. And if we ever decide, I'm doing it at my pace, no rush whatsoever. I really need a break LOL
TINA: What will be the next pairing for your fanfic?
NAOMY: YunJae definitely. 85% of the time that's what I write and I'm famous thanks to it so I don't have any plans on switching!
TINA: Future yunjae projects?
NAOMY: I’m planning on a collab about vampires but let’s see what happens!
All ABOUT SMUT........................
TINA:Tells us why are we so interested to read taboo topics when it comes to yunjae?Ex.incest ,cheating, home wrecker etc.
NAOMY: I like these topics. I like the dark side of life and it’s amazing to portray it in writing. Since your imagination runs wild, there’s no way of stopping you. I even wanted to do a fic about a mental patient and a psychologist! I never finished it, but I have a page of a confrontation between the two of them.
TINA: How difficult or easy is writing smut?
NAOMY: It’s easy, but I don’t do it often.
TINA: Do you blush or get embarrassed while writing smut?
NAOMY:Nope. Sex is something everybody will experience sooner or later, why should I be embarrassed? It’s natural and normal.
TINA: How do you write the sex scene? What is the inspiration?
NAOMY: It depends on the mood. If I’m sad, I won’t be able to do it, but if I’m happy and the fic requires it or I think it fits, then I do it. My inspiration comes from songs, as usual. I need upbeat songs or reggateon (a very dirty music, please do not listen to it hahahahah) to get into the mood.
TINA: Have you ever watched GV before writing a smut scene? (U can choose to ignore this if u doesn’t want to answer)
NAOMY: Nope.
TINA: Has any family member or friends have ever walked on you while writing a sex scene?
NAOMY: Nope and if they do, I’m legal! Hehe
TINA: Thoughts after writing your first ever sex scene?
NAOMY: “Wow, this was hot!”
TINA: What is the secret of writing a sex scene that turns on your readers?
NAOMY: Think about your own pleasure. If you aren’t feeling it, your readers won’t. You are the communication between the characters and the readers, so it’s important to know your own feelings. That’s what I think every time I do smut and, of course, to make it as realistic as possible. I don’t tend to read smut because writers exaggerate it and once you enjoy the wonders of sex, you know that porn or what they write is absolutely nonsense.
TINA: it is so heart breaking when u see your favorite authors deleting their journals or accounts, taking away the chance to reread some of your favorite stories..and having those wonderful stories lost..Have you anytime in future have plans on deleting your account?
NAOMY: For now, absolutely not. If I ever decide that, I’ll let my readers know, but I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon.
TINA: Any words for the readers?
NAOMY: Hope you like this interview! I’m sweating so much omg haha
End of part 2.
