Beau Jo was acting all weird today and had crazy amounts of drool just falling out of his mouth -- he was a mess. I took him to the emergency vet and we figured out it was poisoning from my calla lily plant -- Beau had been chewing the leaves on it. I had no idea, but all lilies are toxic to cats! They did tests on him and got him hydrated (he ( Read more... )

Poor Beau Jo! I'm glad he is going to be okay!

Oh yes, all lilies are very toxic to kitties =(

We're taking Mama Wolf & Tigrillo to the vet today. We'd scheduled them just for their yearly check-up/booster shots, but then two days ago Tigrillo threw up a WORM on the floor! Not a tapeworm, something else gross. So we'll get that taken care of. She was allegedly de-wormed last summer after we trapped her, but I was dubious at the time since they hardly could touch her. I don't know how she could have gotten more - she's not been outside since July, and hasn't eaten any kind of food other than cat food. It was gross though!

Beau Jo has had tape worms and roundworms. He had the roundworms when we got him, they are common in outdoor cats. The tape worms he got from fleas, the vet said if a cat eats a flea it can give him tape worms because fleas like to eat tape worm eggs and it's just a gross little cycle. Anyways, hope little rio will be okay!

Hey Chi! We just got back from the vet. They both did so good! The vets remembered Rio's last visit, hehe, and were a little apprehensive but she was such a good girl, no biting or running around - just quiet and a little scared.

Rio now weighs 8.5 lbs! She only weighed 5 lbs when we trapped her, so that was very good. She weighs the same as Mama Wolf.

The vet said both were very healthy, and they couldn't find any worms in Rio's stool sample, or eggs. We described the worm to the vet and she knew what it probably was - apparently it's some sort of worm that has an egg life cycle that sometimes beetles carry. So she things maybe a beetle got into the house, and Tigrillo ate the beetle, and that's where the worm came from, hehe. Luckily there wasn't evidence of any others, but just in case we have some medicine to give her.

I'm thankful she was such a good girl at the vet - especially compared to last time! All the workers were so happy to see her so rehabilitated and healthy, too!

Also while we were at the vet they had a flyer they were handing out to cat owners, and it warned specifically about Calla Lilies on there!
