Oh. Wow. That was amazing. It hurts, and also perfectly fits who Colby was and could have been with who he now is. I can't wait to see what else you have written - for this 'verse or anything else.

Thank you so much for commenting! I'm glad that tone of 'might have been' came through but still worked with who is in cannon. That was my trick to balance while writing.
