Temporary Place-holding Post

I'll be gone again shortly, for yet another all day work-related thing, this time a meeting to write the 2005 Budget, oh joy. (Actually, I rather like this kind of number-crunching. Hey, somebody has to!) At least this is the next to last leg of the 1100+ miles bout of NotHome I've been on for the last week and a half ( Read more... )

Set the cruise control.

Oh Yes!

On the open road, I get cranky if I have to actually push the pedal for more than a minute or two. On familiar winding roads, I'll use cruise control too, as long as I know that I can do a specific speed around the speed limit with few exceptions (Tioga Road through Yosemite - 50mph, 3 slow turns).

My ancient and venerable (but no longer mountain-capable) Mazda has a cruise control, umm, of sorts. Actually, it being a standard, the device really just holds the RPMs on flat roads or very mild slopes. So I am unaccustomed to CC nowadays; having it on the Jeep is a nice minor luxury... that is, when I remember to use it. *d'uh* Usually I just set it to keep the natural lead out of my right foot; zippy little critter, that Yeep....

I came home by way of an open-range ranch road, which necessitates a high degree of alertness and a lot of slowing down to avoid the cattle drifting unconcernedly across the pavement. That route cuts a few miles off the trip, but no time, really--in fact, it's slower. But it's pretty out there, and I wasn't in a huge hurry. The music, the music...!

Is the tour you designed for me for early May also good for, say, November? If Mom can be driven to Florida, then another trip 2 weeks later to Massachusetts, we ought to be able to go on a looong trip to Seattle & LA and San Diego, swinging back past you. Maybe. I hope. I dunno. And blest be cruise control.

Sure it would work--even though the same set of Festivals would not be going on, there could very well be others just as interesting. Or none at all, with the places being worth the trip in and of themselves.

You'd be dealing with cooler weather, and through the mountains, potentially some pretty dicey driving conditions. Though if it's early November, you're likely to find it simply bracing and crisp--that's not our (FWIW) "rainy" season, nor is it normally wildly snowy yet up there.

Let me know if you're seriously starting to plan something, and the dates as close as you can determine. I can modify the existing intinerary accordingly.

(Still think you'd like the Fire & Music Concert best, though! *grin*)

It's partly because Mom hasn't seen one of the boys in several years, and I want to deliver a present to another cousin.
