Photo Icons

Gah! I have one--exactly, precisely uno--decent photo of myself... and I cannot figure out how to reduce its pixels to the LJ-allowed max! I can reduce the size. I can reduce the bytes. The pixels, however, have defeated me. < Sob! >

Though < BrightSiding [tm] > perhaps some things are best left to the imagination, anyway ( Read more... )

What program are you trying to use? I could probably walk you through making an icon, or I could make one for you if you know what you want *g*. I've made nearly all my icons. (can be seen here)

The only photo-manipulation software I have is the creakingly ancient version of Polaroid PhotoMax that came with my digital camera, lo, these... stops to think... must be 6 or 7 years ago. (Poor old camera, held together--literally--with rubber bands. And yet, rather like its sister-in-arms, the 20-year-old Miracle Mazda, it still works!)

So... I dunno. Maybe my office computer has something on it I can access. And, once accessed, actually understand. That may be asking for too much, all in one day, but I guess I'll forward a copy of the photo over there and see what I can do tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer, Cat. And your icon collection is breath-taking! {drools}

I rescaled my photos using Microsoft Paint, if you have that. In the Image menu, use the Stretch/Skew menu item. (I think that's what I used...) Oh, and welcome to the community - I loved the piper story!

Thanks for the welcome. I was about to despair of ever getting LJ's account creation page to work with me, but today, at last--success!

About that bagpiper... I actually like piping, in the hands of a player with enough skill to put the necessary subtlety into it. This kid, bless 'im, had but two volumes: On and Off. And his "On" was at full, blasting maximum.

Imagine your beard, parting down the middle. Your eyebrows, skidding off toward your ears. And your hair, streaming behind you, flapping. T'was kinda like that, see.

We've got--not willingly, but we do have--several different MicroSoft Office programs on the office computer. I'll check tomorrow and see if we have the one you refer to, so I can attempt that one too.

Thanks!

In the off chance you could deal with a regular lizard in an emergency...

Ready for you snaffle them from my icons page. (Lizard1, Lizard2 and Lizard3, so named in a fit of creativity). If you want closeups, all three of these were posing for the camera, although #2 was doing pushups. Since I'm too lazy to remember the HTML to make a nice link, you can either click through to my userinfo (clicking on the icon on that page takes you to the all icons page), or cut and paste my username into Cat's link.

Ditto on help with the iconage, although I use a couple paid programs to do my editing. Yes, I know using Corel PhotoPaint to do quickie icons is like swatting flies with a laser-cannon...but it works. I also use some Ulead editing products...they appear to have a free version...no idea of the quality.

Heh. Another victim lured into the timesink that is LJ.

Yuppers. I'm resigned to it. After all, I had such copious spare time on my hands already.... NOT.

And thanks very much. The lizard icon installed right up. Kewlness!
