I don't think people would hate you forever. It's something to factor in the wedding planning, and it's pretty costly overall. Perhaps offering a cash bar would be a reasonable compromise if the venue you are looking at serves it and you aren't sure if you want to have a bar or not.
Otherwise, do what you want. When they get married, they can have all the alcohol they can afford, in the meantime - it's your wedding. Make the choices you want.
This particular venue doesn't allow liquor on site. Of course there are other places around, but basically we're looking at the fact that if we have the alcohol it means we could only invite half the people. And, personally, I'd rather have my cousins at my wedding than booze.
