Oh no, I discovered my old graphics folder. Hello old Livejournal layouts which I wish didn't exist! Although actually, the main reason why I went into it was because whilst watching The OC (hello my old friend) I remembered I made a layout with Summer on it, and I totally loved the shit out of that layout. In fact, I still do, take that 2006 or ( Read more... )

they were taken in 1997. thing is, i think they're modern because they only depict one type of society of luxury and wealth. but i also think they are postmodern because the woman is quite powerful and she's not the typical kind who is just a sex object and that's it. if that makes sense!! i dont think i fully understand either of the concepts tbh.

yeah it is hard to define both postmodernism and modernism. we were just talking about it in class the other day and basically came to the conclusion that there is no definition, and you cant pin point where it really ends...but for the sake of this assignment, i would lean towards post modernism. i mean, what really defines modernism though? argh we could go in circles.
but, overall: 1997 was still an era in which many many changes were seen in the efforts of postmodernism. particularly if you're looking into feminism. they're very powerful images, and its basically using the notion of sex to sell a product, or as art, and still an image which stands out for it's time. you could talk about the gaze, the manipulation of the viewer, argue which audience this is intended for etc.

i'm not so great with modernist images, it's not an area which ive looked into much, so i might be a bit bias haha

This post is so cool! My fandom was Friends back in the day and I used to make a tonne of graphics, headers and icons when having headers on LJ was still cool. My graphics journal was gottheflavour. Looking at your graphics, I remember using these exact same styles - the fonts, using the same image twice in the same graphic, the grunge textures, the dot and dash brushes, etc! I might do this post too to show some of my older graphics as well. It could be fun! I know it would make me super nostalgic too. I think I still have them in a Photobucket album somewhere... I'll have to find them ( ... )

Ahhh do it! I love this kind of thing, it's so interesting hahaha. And embarrassing, but you gotta love it.
I agree, the SPN fandom was just...too crazy for me. I've been in a big fandom before but it was really lovely and everyone got along and it wasn't...weird haha. I think the wincest was just wayyy too far. Made me feel a little ill haha.

Ahhh Zara. I will have to do a post on it soon. Basically, it was crazy, and my body actually hurts right now from it.

Such a good list you have! There's some movies on there I haven't seen in forever...My Girl! So sweet! And Stand By Me is probably one of my favourite movies in the entire world. River Phoenix baby <3
