Mom, Giles, Xander, Tara, and Dawn are all chatting away. Which leaves, Joyce and I all alone and not watched. Heh. I meander into the bedroom and go through all the stuff on the bed first. Damn, it's not there. Hmm...where could she have hid it? I look through all the drawers. Nope. I walk out of the bedroom into the living room area. Wow, there ( Read more... )

I looked at her conspiratorily. She was a year older than I was, and she'd always been just so damn cool!

"I don't know. What did your mom say about it? I can try to look at it, and see if it's got anything magickal about it, if you want."

"Well, Mom did say not to open it. So I guess we'll just glance at it? But yeah try and see what you can figure from it. You still do Wicca and all that stuff right?" I asked. She might actually come in handy. Not that she doesn't but she can use her "powers" and stuff. She's not that bad for only being a year younger than me. I mean usually I get pissed off with smaller kids around but she's kewl.

"What exactly are you going to do to it?"

I laughed, but not loud. Didn't want to interrupt Aunt Buffy on the phone, or get caught.

"Wicca doesn't really go away, Jane. I just am. And I'm going to do something they often call 'checking aura's', though that's a bit new age. I'm just going to check it for magick." I tried to sound all knowledagable and stuff. After all, this was my area.

I shut my eyes for a moment, calling space around us, and whisper "opthama" three times. Then I opened them...

"It's got an ugly green glow to it. Not at all like mom was supposed to have. I don't know, maybe we shouldn't open it. On the other hand, the two of us might be able to take care of it, and then we'd be hero's, and we wouldn't bother mom and Aunt Buffy. And Tara."

Tara, who we all though was dead. I'd seen pictures of her, Aunt Willow's true love (well, her and Oz...it was weird).

Hanging up, I looked to the others as I told them the deal. That I alone, was going to the airport and that they had to stay here. Well, I told Tara and Dawn that. Joyce and Jane seemed to be MIA. Weird.

But they were teenagers, so anything goes. "Jane, behave yourself for Aunt Tara and Dawn. Don't go getting into anything and do not touch that box." I yelled towards the bathroom door. "I'm going to get grandpa from the airport and I'll be back soon. Order whatever you all want and get me anything that isn't too disturbed sounding in name."

With my jacket slung over the bend of my arm, I made my leave. Stake safely in pocket and cross hanging from my neck. Oh, I really wanted a fight. Just not right now. I didn't need Giles to be left waiting on.
