If you could change a law from any time in history, which would you change and what impact would this have?

I'd abolish the death penalty!!!

But I don't know how things would be different now... Oh wait, I have to choose WHEN? That's tough.

How romantic of you.

Would you care to explain why?

It's to punish someone for killing another human being, yes? But then, that seems a little hypocritical if you ask me.... Killing someone to punish them for killing.

Fool! Hypocrisy implies the subversion of a set of pre-established values for the sake of convenience or advantage! This is frankly impossible in a system in which lawful and unlawful homicidal methods are clearly outlined and then followed. The only people who would apply that word to capital punishment are those who do not appreciate the quality of the word itself.

Try again.

Oh Ronnie~ You're so gentle.

I guess I'm selfish, my first thought was repealing the speed limit! But that wouldn't be any fun, anyway. Then everyone would be gunning for me! I think I'd abolish the death penalty too. <3

I knew you'd understand, Dessie!!

I mean, I came close to being executed for a crime I didn't commit!!! Who knows how many other innocent people were in the same shoes I was...and DIDN'T have someone like Mr. Wright to save them.

That could never have happened, Ronnie, don't even say something like that!! No matter what, someone would have gotten that awful man for that murder... I just know it!

Better not abolish it after the suspension of the sixth amendment or else there'd be no more room in our prisons. Though as it is currently, I think our roster of inmates are getting a little lonely?

Maybe we can put them all on an island somewhere?

You'd sure need a lot of guards, then.

Are we talking about a 'sunshine and white beaches' island or a 'I can see Fisherman's Wharf from here' deal? Because if it's the former, I want in.

The latter, of course!

Oh, you wouldn't need that many guards. The ocean alone is enough. Especially if they released a lot of sharks in the area!!

A... noble idea, at the very least. It's hardly so uncomplicated as all that, as I'm sure you're learning.

Y-yeah. Maybe I should've thought my answer over a bit more before posting this.....

Given that you acknowledge the lack of forethought you put into it in the entry itself, I think that may have been a wiser choice.

I see what you mean as someone who was also wrongfully accused. However, my obligation as both a prosecutor and a victim of crime make it far easier for me to support the death penalty. The onus is on the prosecutors, detectives, defense attorneys and judges to be checks and balances to one another in making sure that those on death row are there with cause. In the event of a mistake, there are appeals as well.

True evil does exist in this world, Curly Sue -- in the hearts of men. There ain't no savin' those afflicted...best we can do is to put 'em away for good so we don't gotta share with 'em the air we breathe.

Now wait a second! That's arguable, don't you think? How can we clearly define what "evil" is, anyway...? Everyone deserves a second chance.

Besides, air is for EVERYONE to breathe -- good people AND bad.
