Very Hungry Caterpillar when he was three,'>
"Today class, we are going to draw the life cycle of a butterfly." Miss Green looked excited. She always did. Maybe it was a first time teacher thing.

Warren didn't bother to hold back a yawn. He'd been bored by the Very Hungry Caterpillar when he was three, and didn't think art was the best way to learn science. He sighed and pulled out a box with his crayons. It wasn't even the big pack. His mom said he'd just lose them.

Sometimes he hated his mom.

Robbie was still digging in his desk. "Warren?" he asked.

Warren ignored him. Last time he let Robbie share his crayons, the ends had been chewed and Robbie had purple teeth for two days. The teeth part had been funny, but Warren was still mad about the bite marks.

"What are we supposed to draw Miss Green?" That was April. She was blonde and all the adults loved her. She was also stupid since the hand out listed each stage. He hated her, too.

"What do we do, when we don't know what to do?" chanted Miss Green.

"We look it up," chorused a few of the sheep. They were all in grade two. Who still had to look this stuff up? Especially with the cheat sheet in front of them? He focused on drawing eggs under a large green leaf.

Maybe he should try and find a caterpillar and watch this all happen? That was proper science. No way would it be as messy as the frog. He'd liked the frog, especially when it jumped out at his mom.

He put fangs on his caterpillar, not like Miss Green would even notice. And he added the big spikes that the smelly ones had. Maybe this wouldn't be too bad.

"Warren? Please?" Robbie was staring at the fat red pencil he still used.

"What will you give me?" Warren asked. Robbie's mom made really good cookies.

Luckily Robbie had borrowed enough stuff that he quickly offered, "Today I've got chocolate chip."

A good start, but why give in so easily? "And tomorrow?"

"More cookies? Oatmeal raison, I think."

With a grunt, Warren pushed the crayon box towards Robbie. His mom had banned cookies, but Warren knew how to look out for himself. He started to draw the next stage, and thought that if his Mom flipped out about the caterpillar, he could find a chrysalis (and NOT a cocoon like the sheet said) and open it up. Now that would be cool. And probably gooey.

"Don't forget that we have books with photos of butterflies, if you want to check." Miss Green was walking between the groups of tables.

He didn't know much about butterflies- caterpillars were cool but things with wings were too girly- how real did he need to make it?

"Miss Green, Miss Green." Teacher's stupid pet April had called attention to herself again. "How does this look?"

He tried not to look up as Miss Green complimented April. His insect might not be perfect, but even he knew that no butterfly had pink and purple polka dot wings. And they called this science class?

He knew this wasn't science. Science was figuring out how things worked. Maybe he should catch a caterpillar himself. Just to make sure.

He could already imagine pinning its wings. Or pulling them off. He snatched the orange crayon from Robbie, and glared until Robbie handed back the green one too. Warren was going to learn to do things properly.
