Even though I was running fairly silent for the last few years. I just checked when I first signed onto LJ and it was December 23rd, 2003. You guys have been here for my whole fannish journey! Thanks for that.
Writing
I've dropped off of writing fanfic, but my AO3 account can attest to the fact I'm still reading bunches. What I am writing is geek focused articles for a few local blogs. I've got a weekly column of geeky events, and in Toronto a slow week is three geeky events while a busy week can have over 20. I also do some movie and tv reviews (free screening ftw!) as well as cover the convention beat. I write at geekpr0n, thetelevixion, and nerdmafia (while it was running) under the name Sunny.
The good news about this is I get to know many amazing creative geeks in off line capacity! I also know what fun things I could be doing on the nights when the SofaOfSloth(TM) beats my roll for initiative.
Job
Changed careers, part by choice, part by circumstance. New work is less lucrative, but also less time consuming allowing me to maximize the above geeky events. I'm also doing more of a 'patchwork' approach to income instead of a more traditional 9-5 (or 8-7) approach. So far, I'm managing and enjoying a life of semi-leisure.
Home
Still in my one bedroom apartment near a major intersection in Toronto. It's a great location. Had people over for Christmas & New Years so it's even on the tidy side of habitable at the moment (when I hermit, things get piled).
Fannish Things
I have discovered the joy of twitter (@FannishSunny for those on that platform), which makes sense considering the number of drabbles I've written! I sometimes end up live tweeting reactions (not spoilers) for a few geeky shows like The Flash, Agents of SHIELD, and Constantine.
I do a lot of 'live' geeking, but have also continued to help with the local "Can't Stop the Serenity" charity screening. Toronto was amongst the cities that did it in the first year, and we've been going strong ever since! This will be the 10th year, and after that most of the committee is eager to take a break and merely be 'audience' for a while.
I've gotten back into monthly issue comics, mostly b/c one of my local comic book stores now has a cafe with tables and outlets and I've become part of a casual group called the Wednesday Crew. Through the geek reporting, I've met a number of comic creators (both for the Big 2 and indies) and am having fun with several titles including DC's newly launched Gotham Academy and Batgirl, and I think I may be a fan of Marvel's new (female) Thor and their Agents of SHIELD (first one was very Coulson based, not a bad thing).
I also have an overflowing shelf of mixed genre books by authors I've either merely met, or actually gone drinking with. Toronto is a great city for meeting folk who make things!
So, that's a bit of an update, I hope not to go nearly so long without posting. I do pop by regularly to read things, and as some of you know, still make a comment or two.
Happy 2015, I hope to see more of all of you!
Sunny
