Getting the car

Mar 11, 2004 19:15

::I ran down the street heading towards Nicole's house.I could see Nicole's house from where I was and could see that the Viper was still there. Which was a good thing. That means I could call Nicole and ask her if I could borrow it, sine you know it's still there to be borrowed. I dialed Nicole's cell number as I got to her place and searched my ( Read more... )

I nearly fall out of my seat when the silence in the office is broken by a phone ringing. This is exactly what I was sayin'! With the whole AI team out and about leaving no one here on Phone duty---wait...it's me. Heh...I knew that. I pull my phone from my backpack and flip it open.

"Hello?"

::Finally she answered. Boy she had alot to say but I mean that is generally what you say when you do answer a phone::

"Hey Nicole, It's Dawn. I just called to ask you a couple things. One why didn't you call me and tell me you weren't gonna show up for school. And Two can I borrow the viper?"

::She doesn't really need to know what I needed it for. But she is over at Angel's new place so if she asks I won't hide it from her. I mean she might even like to come along but if she is getting info on the disks she might just want to stay there. She is full of surprises. But it's not like I am going to the mall or nothing::

"Oops...my bad. Kinda lost track of time. I was talkin' to Spike, but he poofed. It was rather rude. I think he said something before he left, but I was busy listening to the phone ring. Don't think it was too important though...seeing as how all he did was complain about mascot elephants...or something like that. I think he's adjusting to the being a ghost thing quite well."

Did she say car? What am I a dealer for the things?

"Car--yeah, sure. On one condition, you have to pick me up. AI is dead...nobody's here. How the hell did Angel keep this place running for five years?"

At this point the echo of my own voice in the empty building was creeping me out. Sure I had only been alone for the last...3 minutes, but I don't deal with seclusion well....

"From that point just go straight for 5 blocks. It a big building that looks uninhabitable and the paint job it a eyesore."::I had the car in park while I listened as Nicole explained how she was fine and would give more with the details when I got there. Once she was finished saying she was fine she told me to carry on straight.I put the car in drive and drove down a couple blocks and stopped at the red light and waited for it to go green ( ... )

I watched as she drove right on by me. Was today some kind of be rude to Nicole day? Luckly for me-and also...her, she came back.! I knew she would! Kinda.....

“Ok, now you’re just showing off with your fancy driving skills.”

Getting into the car, I put my seatbelt on within the first 2 minutes of sitting. She was a Summers after all... I kinda wished I would have run into Cor while at AI HQ, guess she and the rest of the gang were all busy with the evil fighting....

”So how did the disk cracking come up not to mention Spike being all non-corporeal and all."Well nice to see she didn’t waste anytime getting down to business ( ... )

"Ok,now you’re just showing off with your fancy driving skills."

::I laughed a bit as she said that. Hello I am in a viper, it's practically begging you to show off. But it was fun to. I mean after all I know what I am doing. I haven't had one accident and I don't intend to. This was at least one of the things Buffy still trusted me with. I passed my drivers test with flying colors and haven't had one ticket or accident. Sure I get into enough trouble and all but driving is one things that I won't risk Buffy taking power over of. I bought my own vehicle...well with some of the money that mom had left but it was still my responsibility.::

Angel got that creepy lookin amulet that Buffy gave to Spike during the fight with the first in the mail. It made with the glowing then it got windy-inside mind you-then poof! Instant Spike. Kind of like those stupid little sea monkey things. Just add water. Granted, there was no water involved,...but you catch what I mean.”::I put the car in drive and started off down the street as Nicole talked ( ... )

"Then I went outside, and well I sat in a tree cause my face was bothering me. Then a little while later this girl. Her names Abby anyway we got to talking. She is a freshman by the way and a liar. She knew my last name and she said it was because of that fact that you were at the top of the social status and me being your best friend makes me up there to. But since you already mentioned the fact that your status kinda went when you did, I totally wasn't buying it."I dont think I’ve ever been through that many emotions in less than 5 minutes. I was sympathetic when she told me she sat in a tree...oh, and ‘cause of her face, but she was in a tree with that outfit....that poor shirt. Then I was happy she made a new friend, but that quickly turned to mild panic. It left possibility for me to be replaced! But once she called this Abby girl a liar I was relieved, and felt pretty secure with my ’best friend’ status. All the ‘security’ quickly vanished-- along with a tiny bit of pride as she mentioned my social status and it’s downward ( ... )

I snapped out of my daydream as a black car pulled up in front of me. It was so--shiny. A bit too shiny in fact. The suns rays bounced off the jet black paint and the glare hurt my eyes. Squinting, I saw two figures moving from inside the vehicle. The windows were tinted, and that combined with the sun glare made it difficult to make out that clear of an image. But I didn’t really need to see who those people were. It was Nicole Chase’s car....and Dawn did say she had to pick up something. Didn’t think that ‘something’ was gonna be a car though....

My wait hadn’t been as long as I thought either. Sure, I was still lacking in the watch department, but that didn’t feel like a 7 and a half hour wait....

“You left her on a mail box....? And my god this is L.A. and she’s strutting around in that jacket? Does she want a heatstroke?""Well I didn't actually leave her on the mailbox. I didn't carry the girl out there and put her up there and say sit on that mailbox wearing that jacket and wait till I get back. We were under a tree and I said I would be right back with something and would meet her out front. Well this is out front and guess it looked comfy ( ... )

I half smile at the girl on the mailbox. What kind of name was Abby anyway? A weird one! That's what kind! I'm being childish...I know...it takes me a while to warm up to people. I think its a test I put them through subconsciously. If they can put up with me for the first week, then I know they can take anything. Many have been subjected to this 'test', but few have passed. Hell, at first I didn't think Dawn was gonna make it, but she can turn on an attitude when she needs to---that's what sold her on me.

"Pleasure...So, you comin' with or do you still have bonding to do with the mailbox? We can wait---Actually, no--we really can't."

Jumping down off the mailbox, I make my way over to the car, open the door, then hop into the back seat. Pulling my backpack off, I rest it in the empty space beside myself then look at Nicole.

"Pleasures all mine...."

Ok, someone turn the heater on 'cause this girl is ice cold. She played it very low key, but there was no getting around the feeling that she didn't like me. Lucky for her, I know how nice she can be...once you manage to break through those walls of hers. Boy, this was gonna be fun...

"So, you got a mode of transportation, now have you decided on a destination?"

I didn't mean for that to rhyme...honest...

I nibbled on my burger, still not feeling totally at ease with the current situation. I had absentmindedly been chewing at my straw each time I took a sip from my coke, rendering the straw now useless. (Chewing on the straw was better than chweing at my nails) I think I took in more bits of white and red plastic rather than actual food.

After crumpling the bag shut, I set it in the space between the driver and passenger side seats then sink down into my chair and cross my arms. Staring out the window, I begin to blow bubbles into my drink with my broken straw.

The awkward silence in the car was broken by bubbles being blown into a soft drink. This situation reminded me of a cartoon--where a given character tries to go to sleep, only to have that plan canned due to the sound of a leaky faucet. Like the leaking faucet, the sound of the bubbles begin blown was magnified 100 times over in my ear. I had heightened hearing to being with--always have--but this was insane. I wanted to scream, but managed to refrain from acting on this desire. Sitting in one spot for too long always did make me a bit twitchy ( ... )

::I finished up my burger and glanced over at Nicole who wasn't looking all that happy. She barely ate her food and this is Nicole and I when we have the opportunity to eat good food we take it. Buffy is a bad cook and I am sure Cordy isn't much better at it. I looked in the mirror and noticed Abby who was just sitting in the backseat. I still wasn't sure about that girl. I mean she knows my last name and I didn't tell her it and the whole thing about Nicole it just doesn't work. But I am more worried about Nicole. She is hardly ever quiet but after the drive and stuff, I guess I can go back to her place for a bit or something and talk to her. After all it has been awhile since we just really talked. Sure I stayed the night but it was more to do the research thing then girls night. But I was glad when Nicole turned on the radio. Took away that whole silence deal::

"M&M's?" Then Nicole glanced her back a look, then turned back round in her seat "Ohhh! They rap!"::Okay I kinda gave my own lil look to Nicole once she said they rap... ( ... )

"Gunn! I-it's Gunn!"

::Gunn??....Oh!! that Charles guy who worked for Angel....explains why Nicole knew the dude's name. Things looked really bad. There was glass all over the place not to mention he was in there pretty good::

"Dawn call 9-1---"

::I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and about to call 9-1-1 but could hear the sirens in the distance so I put my cell phone back into my pocket and just stared at the reck. This is bad, really bad. I mean I hadn't meet the guy and well this isn't a good way to start out. I hope the ambulance and police get here soon. I stood by Nicole in attempts to comfort her. I mean she knew the guy longer then I had. I had only heard story's about him. Ya know fighting the good fight and such. The police and ambulance finally got there and I stayed with Nicole as the Police tried doing there job then looked to Abby who was still up by the reck::

""We don't have time for that! The guy is in an overturned bomb waiting for its button to be pressed!"::One of the officer's had escorted Nicole and I ( ... )
