Hospitals Never Bode Well

Apr 19, 2004 12:15

Driving to the hospital, I chatted idly with Willow. It had been some time since I had last seen the young woman, and she seemed far more...witchy...then before. A growing confidence in her abilities and life, perhaps? Hopefully not too confident ( Read more... )

I had wandered away from the girl for a short while. Nikki had fallen asleep before I took my short leave, and Dawn wasn't far behind. Quick trip to the hospitals vending machines. Sure, it's no four star restaurant, but it was better than nothing.

With my arms now full of an assortment of snacks for the girls I headed back to the waiting room. Rounding the corner I breeze right on by an elevator just as it opens. Pausing for a brief moment, I back track a few paces and notice Wesley and Willow standing inside. "Wesley!" I caught myself just as I was about to wave a 'hello' to them. That wouldn't have gone well--with the...dropping of everything I was currently holding on to.

The elevator ride was rather quiet...with Willow only mumbling something about elevator music on the way up. I suppose I wasn't that interesting of a person to 'chat' with. Sighing, I was glad when the doors finally opened. Stepping out, Willow behind me, I saw Cordy...who saw me.

"Cordelia...are you alright? Nikki called me and said that you and Fred might be in trouble, so I went to the warehouse but only Willow was there."

Frowning as I saw her snackfood laden arms, questions sprang to mind which I immediately asked.

"Did you rob a vending machine and are you that hungry? Is Gunn really that bad off?"

I shifted my arms a bit to wrangle a stray box back into its place before it slipped.

"We're fine. Can't say we were in the 'fine' category a few hours ago, but yeah...all in one piece. Guess who decided to pay us a little visit and trash the office in the process. Drusilla." Yes, I answered my own 'Guess who' question, but nothing new there. "Fred brought her by thinking she was Buffy, then the woman goes all ax murderer on us... with an actual ax! Then she just...went away."

I look down at my arms once more then back to Wesley. "Yeah, this is how I survive now...off of vending machine food. Think Angel would give me a raise?" Tough crowd...not even a smile from him. Sheesh.

"He's in and out of consciousness. I think we're in the 'out' time now. Broken bones here and there, but he'll be ok given time."

Drusilla...not good news. She wasn't even blond and talked with an accent...how could Fred ever mistake her for Buffy? It was all just another danger I failed to protect them from.

"I'm glad you're both alright. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you and Fred."

Shifting guiltily, I decided the best thing would be to just get Dawn and leave.

"Here," I told her as I pulled out my wallet.

Taking out two twenty dollar bills, I set them atop the pile of snackfood in her arms.

"Consider it reimbursement."

Putting away my wallet, I looked around the hospital.

"Where is Dawn and Nikki? I was supposed to take Dawn home."

"Haven't worn in a suit in quite some time. You look good too...except for the bruise, of course. You're no longer a child anymore, but a woman. It makes me feel old...where have the years gone?"

Wow, Wes says I have became a woman but check him out!. He isn't all stuffy, british watcher guy. But more a less calm, cool and collected guy. I could get use to Wes more this way. I mean I thought it was adorable how he took...er tried to take charge back in Sunnydale it was so cute. The way he wore those suits...well face it..it was hilarious. But know one really seemed to give him a break...cept for Cordy. So I pretty much went easy on him to.

"I'm sorry you got hurt, and if you need a ride to school or anything, let me know. I'd be glad to help."Oh! that's right, I guess he wouldn't know that I am fully licensed to drive now. Not to mention the fact I got my own set of wheels. Then I get to drive Nicole's cars to on occasion. They are cool and all but I like my truck ( ... )

After filling my backpack with...vending machine food I zipped up my bag and slung one of the straps over my shoulder.

I looked an Dawn unimpressed as she went on about that hunk of metal she used as transportation. A truck...how utterly unfeminine. It was the sort of vehicle made for men three times her size named...Bucky, who wore ripped jeans and flannel shirts. But she was proud of it...and her license. I never did get around to getting one of those. I don’t drive, I’m driven.

I shrug to myself slightly then nod in agreement with her. “Here, bad...other where, good.”

Standing up from my seat I look over to Cor. “You plan on staying a while then heading home?”

“Yes on the staying a while, no on the going home after though. I should get back to the office and...” Clean up the mess that the insane vampire left behind? No...I hadn’t told these two bout the run in with Dru, they really didn’t need anything else to worry about today. “...do...work related stuff.” Sounds logical..

“Dawn, if Buffy’s home would ya tell her I’m sorry I kept you here so long.”

Turning to Wes I gave him my serious face. Not a face I like to use a lot, but I’ll make a exception. “Drive safe. So don’t need another man down.” Tilting to the side slightly I looked over Wesley’s shoulder. “And, uh...nice talking to ya Willow....”

I rolled my eyes slightly after Cordy said she wouldn’t be coming home. Can’t say I didn’t see that coming... I half expected it.

“Work related stuff...sounds...well, awful. Have fun.”

I didn’t mean the have fun bit. I actually hope it was mind numbingly dull and...and...the exact opposite of fun.
