Program 2

[Well, Sunny's been putting it off for a bit, but at least the adults and people she asked didn't know, so today Mayfield you are greeted once again by this little girl's voice]

[Phone - Unfiltered]
H-hello...  I wanted to ask a q-question, though I don't know if anyone has an answer.  A-according to the others I talked to here, w-we're in what seems ( Read more... )

I've been here for over a month and some friends of mine who just arrived a few days ago informed me that I was never absent from that dimension.

However, at the same they say that they were pulled from a time that was almost exactly a month after I arrived, suggesting that time does still flow but when we're pulled from our dimension a copy of ourselves remains.

Either that or the copies are here in Mayfield.

W-what if the copy were to be in our o-own time? Would we not have our memories then...? S-someone else said she'd heard no time had flowed, so th-this is o-odd.

Not necessarily. If it's merely a copy of our consciousness at the time we were taken to Mayfield there'd be no memories of it ever happening. The possibilities are limitless when it comes to alternate dimensions and time-warps. It could be any combination and we don't have enough information yet to know exactly what happened here or at home.

[He should sound sad about this but Egon's voice remains fairly flat and emotionless.]

[Well, it isn't as if she's not used to all sorts of people, but the fact he's so flat does unsettle her; she only usually heard things like that from Jack during the time he was recovering, and at the time he was willing to push himself to a point of possible death.]

S-so like a computer program? If our con-consciousness here is just a copy, th-then the current self is at home?

That's a definitely possibility, yes.

[Egon doesn't bother to offer any comfort with this disturbing statement.]

[Yeah, Egon, you're just confusing and unsettling a six year old. Don't worry about it!]

...Then... W-well which would go back? If reports are like the other girl said earlier, then wouldn't the co-copy be the false one, since the one at home senses no time dis-displacement...

It's not certain if we'll ever go back. We could just simply disappear into nothingness.

B-but the other girl said people have g-gone back and don't recall being gone for any time, so tha-that's not possible that we'll just disappear into nothing!

It's possible that they don't recall being gone because they were never gone to begin with. We could just be copies, remember?

Don't worry. If you do disappear into nothing you won't even be aware of it.

[That's his version of comfort.]

I hope I've helped to flesh out this theory a little bit for you. I have to get back to work now.

[Well, if she were a normal six year-old, you would have totally lost her. Thankfully she's looking at this in a way she understands; computers and how they work.]

S-so wh-whatever happens at home we'll know because we're al-already there.
