Moons

Moon are interesting things. Especially if you are a werewolf.

Here's a thought. According to the Harry Potter Lexicon, the Hogwarts Express leaves King's Cross at 11am on September 1st, arriving in Hogsmeade in the early evening.

In the Philosopher's Stone, Chapter Six: Harry peered out of the window. It was getting dark. He could see ( Read more... )

JKR always said she wasn't any good at "the maths." Apparently that includes checking on full moons and sunsets while writing about a werewolf. It shouldn't really surprise me. If the train ride had been a day or two later, the sleeping all the way could have been our first clue that he was a werewolf with a full moon hangover to be slept off!

Ron points out the train window at the full moon.
Know-it-all Hermione says it's on the wane as it was full two days ago. Close-up of a sleeping Lupin.

Love your beautiful moon shots! I just sat and stared at the moon for a bit last night. It was so very pretty!

We watched the moon rise above the meadows between the mountains of Mammoth Lakes in the Eastern Sierras, on our way back down the dirt roads from sitting in a manmade hot tub next to natural hot springs, watched over by a herd of deer. Heaven on earth. We managed a few pictures, but I can't post them as it wasn't my camera. Your photos are BRILLIANT! Supermoon indeed!!

The impression I had from the narrative, after I went back and reread the whole thing, was that the full moon must have just been in the past day or two, so Remus was exhausted by that.

Meanwhile, in constructing timelines, the HP Lexicon observes that JKR played fast and loose with dates, and they often had to adjust things by days or weeks to make the book calendar match the actual calendar. I bet it works out to one of those things.

Lovely photos. :) I especially like the last two.

I saw the moon, too, though it didn't look quite so big up here. And there were clouds drifting through the sky, which gave the whole thing an almost mysterious feel.
