About the apartment: ummm....what? If you didn't sign a lease, then they can't/shouldn't/CAN'T charge you anything. Just because they were "going" to rent it to you, if nothing was signed and you didn't put down a deposit, then they can't charge you. If you did put down a deposit, then I believe you are entitled to that back as well (but I'm not sure on this one).

Thanks, I'll check it out! BASICALLY, all three of us filled out all the paperwork, to apply for the room, gave the cheque for first and last month rent so they could do the credit check. We essentially did it all but actually sign the lease. We just know we were approved. Ugh.

I was just about to tell you the same thing. I don't know what they're trying to pull, but don't you dare pay them one red cent. Unless they duped us into signing something with some really, really fine print, we don't owe them shit.

Yeah, I would think that if you didn't actually sign the lease, or a statement saying that the intended to lease and therefore if you back out of it, you'll have to pay rent, or if they didn't stipulate the above when you paid the deposit, then like, they can't just say, "Oh, sorry, we're still keeping your money."

Definitely look into it, 'cause that sounds sketch. Sorry that they're out the money for the month, but if you didn't sign a lease, you didn't sign a lease.
