Congrats! Where about is the uni based in LA? I only know of Baton Rouge and New Orleans to be totally honest.

Nah, not the Southern states yet. I'd like to one day. I did cross country by train (yes, a little crazy!) when I was there for a month. All that time on the train, you meet people from all over the states.

thanks alicia, this is the ultimate dream come true! I'm starting to make travel plans and will be posting on LJ so if you see any way of meeting up be sure to let me know! Plus if I get onto the academic training i hope to be based in LA so there's an even greater chance of bumping into each other :D

i'll be heading over there in august! UK academic year is different to the Australian one (you start in january right?), here the year runs from sept-may, or for next year it'll be aug-july :)
