Question...

Have any of you had experience working full time jobs on both afternoon and midnight shifts?  I need some more input before I make a decision to change shifts, such as which was better and why.

I've worked afternoons, nights (working till 2 am), and early mornings (starting at 5 am).

afternoons are the best as far free time goes. You get to sleep in a little bit and you get out early enough to still do whatever you want at night. The issue is, depending on what your doing, the afternoons will probably be the busiest time at work. Meaning you will have to deal with the most amount of people.

I personally liked working midnights. Generally there are less people working, so its easier to just get your job done and be left alone. You also get the whole day pretty much to yourself, since everyone else is working. Which may or may not be a good thing depending on you.

Really, pick the shift based on your social life. If your friends hang out late at night, then it would probably be better to take the afternoon shift.

maintaining a social life as well as personal life is considerably easier on an afternoon shift.
