ok sone... i learned this in gov't... each state has a certain amount of votes (depending on population) like california has 55 and maryland has 10. so in each state they take the popular vote and whoever wins the popular vote of the state wins the number of electorial votes. so kerry won the popular vote in both maryland and california so he got 55 electorial votes from california and 10 from maryland. so even though people may have voted for bush it doesnt matter because more votes went to kerry. so pretty much its all the votes of a state or no votes. and so whoever gets 270 electorial votes wins.

yeah.. makes sense.. but i still don't get why its necessary - why can't they just do the popular vote? and why did gore win the popular vote last election but not the electoral vote? how does that make any sense because if the popular vote of the state wins the number of electoral votes then wouldnt gore have won the popular and electoral votes?!

aaah.

you take gov junior year in maryland? and you get E's instead of F's! strange place.
