I think that it's true on the surface. For a lot of people, circumstances dictate happiness. I think it has a lot to do with adjustment and state of mind as well.
I believe you are right, to a degree. I am of the belief that where our true choice comes in is how to react to the circumstances we are faced with. The world will not give us happiness: we must fight for it ourselves.
So it's not possible to be born into happiness, either? What if you were born into a healthy, loving, well-off family? Do you still have to work for it?
