So, I just came home to see a OMG YOU HAVE A FAILING HARDDRIVE message on my computer. It's running just fine at the moment, so clearly I'm not turning it off as suggested, but OMG WHAT DO I DO? I am abroad, away from my warranty! WHAT WILL I DO IF MY COMPUTER DIES?! Panic, panic!

Get a hard drive. They might be expensive, but you will kick yourself if you lose all your stuff. Trust me.

The suggestions above are good -- do virus scans and also an anti-spyware scan, disconnect it from the internet, defrag, and restart it after all that. But I would still run a back-up before all of the above, just in case.

Also, get a Dropbox account in addition to Google Docs -- you can transfer stuff very easily to it.
