I just spent a really long time reading about Rothko and looking at his paintings. I think I want to write my art history paper on him and "Number 10" because I saw it at MoMA over winter break. i really love rothko...i didn't until i saw his work in person and then i understood about color theory and how his work makes you feel, something which i guess cant be conveyed in photographs. you could try comparing him to pollock (even though i know a lot of people write about him) or dekooning maybe? i talk like i know a lot about art and i dont but i took a contemporary art history class last year that gives me a false sense of knowledge.

haha yeah i was also kind of weighing my options between pollock and de kooning as well... but the other work we compare it to has to be pre-WW2... so i'm thinking maybe malevich (one of his suprematist works..) or boccioni (states of the mind maybe?) or mondrian. mmm, now that i think about it, mondrian is sounding really good right about now.....
