I'm starting to freak out here. I still don't know where I want to move and I have to decide in 2 months! I've been thinking about this for like, 3 years so how have I not decided already?
Okay, I think Madrid or Valencia would be the choices for you. Either one would probably be fine.
Personally, I have been to Extremedura, Salamanca, Badajoz, Sevilla, Jerez and Cadiz, and I am going to the Basque Country in December (just two more months!)
I would bet money that you would LOVE Andalucia, even in summer. It's not as humid as it is here and if you go to the beach it's very tolerable. Trust me, I hate hot weather, but I could put up with it in Andalucia, no problem. One thing about that part of the country is the people...so warm and friendly, and so helpful. Also the men...aaaiiiii, the beautiful MEN. And another thing - never a dull moment - always lots to do.
I loved the food and wine in Extremedura and the people we met were lovely. But it's so dull there! I think that for a young person it might be too boring, but I can't tell for sure because we were only there for a day. Ditto Badajoz. We had a not-so-great experience there and the people seemed cold and unfriendly.
Ohmygosh, please tell me all about the Basque Country when you get back! I'd love to go one day! Ooh, I forgot about the difference with humidity. I`ve definitely heard great things about the people in Andalucía. I have only spent a few days there, so it`s mostly friends telling me this :o) ah, men! I seriously miss Euro clothes on guys, and the beautiful hair! I think it`d be so much fun to live in a really lively city.
This definitely did help! An other thought I keep having is about accents. I know I`ll tune my ear to the accent once I get there, though.
Oh sure I will! I grabbed this chance to go there with a couple of others. To Bilbao and San Sebastian and hopefully we can catch the Real Sociedad/Athletic Bilbao match. That should be an experience, because they hate each other apparently! O_O
Ahhhh...the Euro clothes are great...people from the Iberian peninsula have fantastic hair and they are on average so much smaller than us. I always felt like such a frigging amazon except when I went to visit the clubs because the guys there were bigger than most! XDDD
AHHH LUCY god i want to be in this program of yours hahaha
i know you would love living in madrid for a year. like i told you, my friend rey lived in madrid for over a year and she loved it so much. and even though i was only there for a month, i loved madrid and i miss it more and more everyday! i think you should live in a new place, a different region than you were already in, just to let you know spain more broadly? personally, i would either choose madrid or SEVILLA OHMYGOD. (ohmygod. i would be sick sick sick with jealousy but i would relish hearing you talk about my beautiful city) and i don't think that andalucía would bother you too badly with being hot. i mean it's HOT, but i think if you got acclimated it wouldn't be as much of a shock to your system as say, arriving there in june to 100 degree (F) weather.
but honestly, love, anywhere in spain is going to be amazing. you love spain. god i'm so happy and so jealous and i wish i could find a program like this. sigh! <3
