I'm reading this AWESOME article for my Perspectives on Ethnicity class. This is by far the most interesting article so far in this course

That is fascinating! It makes me think that practically ALL surnames are based on occupations. Which makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Do you know when "naming" people with first names, second and third, etc. names began? And how attaching surnames came to be? This course you're taking sounds so intriguing. :)
It is really interesting to think of surnames and occupations. There are so many (at least in English). Even mine is an occupational surname, even though it doesn't seem like it at all. Well... it might be occupational, I'm not sure. It's either like, "Park Warden" or like "Toward the forest".
I have no idea when naming began, to be honest. It's something to look in to, though! I had all the information on surnaming in Spain and the timeline but I don't remember any of it off-hand and the project I researched this for is no longer on my computer. If I come across it (maybe at home), I'll let you know!
Hahaha. I know, it makes you wonder where your own name/names came from. I know my maiden name comes from a word meaning 'caretaker' but my married name is a stumper. All I know is it's Scottish, comes from a clan that lived around Loch Lomond, but the meaning is impossible to figure out. :/
Oh, thank you! I think it is the most fascinating subject! :)
