Character: Salt
Fandom: A Little Snow Fairy Sugar
Personality:
Having lived in the Fairy World most is life, Salt is ignorant about every-day life and things in the Human World. Searching for "Twinkles" has lead him to playing with trinkets, lamps, and decorations. Just about anything is interesting to him, especially if it's warm or "comfy." He has burnt his glove on a lamp before after leaning on it proudly, strongly believing it was a twinkle. Salt and his friends have also nearly ruined a performance due to the fact they were flying around back stage looking for twinkles and messing with any prop they deemed interesting.

Like most young boys his age, Salt hates kisses, girly things and shampoos. Sugar often tries to kiss him and he has to run away or push her off. Salt is completely happy with taking a bath until the washing of his hair becomes Saga's focus, then he runs away. In contrast, Salt isn't like the other male fairies, Basil and Cinnamon, because he actually likes helping others. Despite still being a child, Salt is very proud of himself and the things he does. He has been known to brag about being a Sun Fairy and all the great things Sun Fairies can do whether they're actually good or not.

Salt can be a bit of a hothead and is quick to throw his little fists up at the first sign of aggression or competition, like the time he was bumped by Saga's rival, Greta. Greta couldn't even see Salt, and yet Salt had to be dragged away by Sugar and Pepper to prevent him from attacking her. He is also protective towards those he cares about. On many occasions, Salt has stood up for Sugar, despite all odds and has even chased an angry cat away using his Sun Magic. He has also created a small hot speck of light and had it attack the Traveling Play Troupe's owner because the man dissed Saga's piano playing before even hearing it. The magic only burned the man's nose tip but Salt was still proud.

He can be rather blunt and can often say things without realizing how it might affect the other person. For instance, he asked Ginger, a rain fairy, why she always hung out with Turmeric. Salt had no idea she would become a flustered mess. However, he isn't impolite. Salt isn't shy to apologize when something is his fault and often says thank you. Once, he, Sugar, and Pepper all accidentally knocked over Saga's teacher, sending graded papers everywhere. To make up for their mistake, the fairies quickly helped pick up the mess and apologized to Saga, since her teacher could not see them.

Despite his rough and tough attitude, Salt is also very compassionate. He helped and cheered on a human, Phil, even though the man couldn't see him. He had to get over his jealousy to do this (the man was creating an aurora, something that Salt himself wanted to do.) The little fairy has a good heart, but he's still young and often times immature. But, he's starting to overcome that and learn more about himself.

History:
Salt is an Apprentice Sun Fairy who has spent his entire life in the Fairy World. With his father being a sun fairy, Salt has always been encouraged to compete to show that Sun fairies are better then all the other Season Fairies. He grew up hearing the same Sun Fairy stories and being preached to about how great Sun Fairies are that he is a sick of it. Even so, he is looking forward to becoming a Full Fledged Season Fairy, to have some freedom from his father.

His two best friends are Sugar and Pepper. All three have traveled to the Human World in search of "Twinkles" as part of their training to become Full Fledged Season Fairies. The Elder Fairy instructed that "Twinkles" will help make their Magic Flowers grow. Once the Magic Flower has grown, they'll be recognized as Full Fledged Season Fairies. During their search for "Twinkles," they meet a young girl by the name of Saga, who is able to see them. It's very rare for humans to see fairies and despite that, Saga isn't interested in helping them, at first. However, after finding the Fairies are prone to mischief and disaster, she often tags along.

Phil, a student in Saga's class, starts to work on an invention to make an aurora. This upsets Salt as auroras can only be made by "Awesome Sun Fairies," like his father, and humans shouldn't meddle with things they can't ever hope to achieve. Jealous and irritated, Salt works hard on his sun magic, practicing over and over in anger. Despite all his practice, he still ends up not being able to create an aurora by himself. With the aid of Turmeric, a Full Season Cloud Fairy, Salt comes to realize it doesn't matter who makes an aurora. It's just what it is and can be enjoyed by everyone just the same. Anger lifted, the sun fairy helps Phil to the best of his abilities, and in the end with Phil's invention and a little of Salt's Sun Magic, an Aura appears across the Town sky. Sugar and Pepper are amazed and ask Salt how he did it. With a smile, Salt admits it wasn't his magic alone, but Phil's machine too. The moment leaves Salt smiling.

When a traveling theater troupe performs in the village, it sparks the curiosity of the fairies. One of its members is dressed as a fairy herself, and the Chairman of the troupe has a special message about the play. 'It'll leave a twinkle in your hearts.' Salt and his friends follow the actors to the play house and explore the unfamiliar theater only to come across a weird sight--a bear playing a piano. Saga tries to explain that the bear is part of the play. The fairies don't really understand, but they're curious and want to see for themselves. Sugar, Salt, and Pepper all convince Saga to take them to see the show. During the show, the fairies misunderstand and begin to think the story is real. Salt believes that the Chairman's actor is an evildoer, and in the end, he cries when the bear character is killed. After everything is over with, they see the actors all on stage. They're confusedly happy to see that "the bear" isn't dead and is fine, but something else catches their interest.

"Mr. Bear" waves at them. This starts their quest to figure out if "Mr. Bear" can actually see them or not. While checking out the village, Vincent (The man who plays "Mr. Bear") is followed by the three fairies as they attempt to figure out if he can see them or not. Sugar suggests that if he can see them that he must know where the twinkles are. Their efforts lead them empty handed at the end of the day. They come to the assumption that Vincent can't see them at all, despite sometimes glancing their way, or up at other Season Fairies. Just before the last show, Vincent hurts his hand and can't play piano. He asks Saga to play for him backstage so the last performance doesn't get canceled. Reluctant to play, Saga ends up accepting the invitation and gets stage fright. Sugar, Salt, and Pepper all encourage her behind stage and help her gather enough courage to continue playing by telling her to simply have fun with it. In the end, the play ends well and the troupe says farewell. As the train leaves, the fairies fly by the train and wave goodbye. For a moment Vincent changes his attention and waves at them, proving to them that he could very well see them after all.

After the traveling play troupe leaves town, Salt's friend, Sugar, finds her Magical Flower has grown a bud. The strange thing is, Sugar says she never found a twinkle. After Saga harasses The Elder Fairy for clues to what "Twinkles" are, he advises Saga to help the young fairies go looking for twinkles. It is said that "Twinkles" are around humans who can see Fairies. Saga plans for a nice day exploring the country side just outside of town. However, they all become lost. Seeing something sparkle, they follow it and it ends up being just being the sun reflecting light off the ripples of a river. The group ends up playing in the river and find that the river eventually leads them back to town. The next day, the young fairies, including Salt, find that their flowers grew buds. He is still at a loss as to how this happened since they never found a "Twinkle." The mystery has left him and his friends confused and concerned but Saga is there to remind them that at least they had fun.

In the A little Snow Fairy Sugar Special movie, Salt, Pepper, and Sugar all making their own play, which is heavily based on the play Saga and her school is performing. Salt has a minor role of playing the forest animals, and afterwords questions why he didn't get a bigger part. This takes place sometime after the Troupe has left and Sugar's flower grows a second bud but before the end of the show.

Those are the major Salt-related incidents in canon up to where he is being pulled from.

Timeline: End of Ep 13, just as his magic flower starts to bud.
Abilities: Flight, and creation of warm sunlight or ball of light, like a sun. He can only use sun magic while playing his magic trumpet.

Sample writing:
After witnessing Phil's machines, Salt decided that there might be some Twinkles in the old junkyard Phil always went to. There were things there that seemed really useful to humans, so why were Phil and his friends the only ones who used them?

Suddenly, the brightly dressed fairy paused mid-flight. There was something shining below. Salt hovered closer until he saw it clearly. It seemed to be a golden box...with legs? Without thinking, he landed and began walking in a circle around the strange object, his thoughts slipping from his lips, "Is this a Twinkle?"

He had to test it to make sure. First he put his hands on it, to feel if it was warm or not. It was...just a little. However, it might be comfy. Second test was to test out if it was comfy. The strange golden box didn't look comfortable to lay upon but who knew. Maybe it was better inside the box, rather than out.

This test was indeed harder than the first, but giving up was not an option! Part of the box was shaped differently then the rest. Two flaps made a small step-like pattern along its side. First, Salt pulled at them. They did not budge. Then, he pushed at them. Again they did not move. "Open up, you stupid box!" He gave the box a nice kick. He only ended up hurting his foot in frustration.

"I won't let you win!"

Salt climbed on top of the box and pulled at the tab one last time. He toppled backwards, then rolled straight off the backside of the box. A high pitched, strange noise started coming from the box--like a chime. He forgot all about his new-found bruises and everything else he'd been thinking about before.

"Ah hah!" He jumped to his feet with a smug smile, then started inching closer to--the now open box! His happiness was quickly swept away as he peered into the velvet interior. It was empty. "What?! No Twinkles?!" But it made a noise, didn't it? Where did that strange twang sound come from before? He leaned over and peered below the golden hassle, between its legs. There was something sticking out from it's underside that he hadn't noticed before. He took off his handbag and straightened his hat. The fairy pressed himself against the table as flat as he could go. And, he started to wiggle along until he finally caught hold of the leaf-thing.

There was no doubt about it. This leaf this had to be a twinkle. When he touched it, he could hear a chime sound. He pulled at it but it wouldn't come loose. "C'mon, Twinkle! I need to bring you to my Magic Flower or I can't be a Full Fledged Season Fairy!" Why didn't it want to come? Maybe there was something he had to do or say first? Salt was lost. he had no idea what he was supposed to do with this thing. The sweat on his forehead was driving him mad. He let go of the leaf-petal and dashed a hand across his brow. As he did, the hand left on the leaf began to turn. Actually, the whole leaf moved counter clockwise. Salt's eyes widened and he quickly took hold of the petal with both hands.

Salt lay there for a brief moment, pondering. Maybe he was supposed to move it? That's it! The thing he had to do was to turn it! It made a strange sound as he began to turn it but it wasn't too difficult. Right over left and over and over until--

"It stopped!" That didn't make any sense. Why did it stop? He pouted and let it go. Just as he did, the chime started. Several chimes began to sound off above. As fast as he could wiggle, Salt got out from under the box and danced about it with a smile. He peered in and found pieces of velvet had opened up and a twirling maiden was dancing to the song in the middle. How fun it would be to play along! And with that, he pulled out his copper colored trumpet and began to play with the music box.

What a beautiful sound they made together. Was this what a Twinkle was like? The duet went by all too fast, until the only sound left was the sound of his own trumpet. Even that tapered off as he sat against the box. He was tired and needed to rest.

"Finding Twinkles is hard work!"

Sample journal entry:

[The feed begins looking up, from the ground, at a small boy fairy in bright oranges and yellows pulling his jestery-like hat off his head and glaring at the Rowen crown before yanking it off. His face puckers into a pout as he bends it]

How many times have I told you not to put these things on my hat, Sugar?! It's gross! I'm not a princess or whatever!

[His sour face fades as he glances around. His eyes catch the device on the ground and he flutters down to it to get a closer look.]

What's this? A weird piano or something? It's small for a piano...

[Salt picks it up and begins pressing the buttons, accidentally switching it to text]

hhjkyoulqfrumlhba109AEKGCVN                           .........,,,,,,,,,D;'][-0QWERTYUIOPASDFGHJLKL;LZXCVBNM,./'\`1234567890

[Switching back to Video; Salt is now humming a song while he fiddles with it more, sitting. He pouts after a moment.]

Aww! This piano must be broken! It's not making any music at all!

Saga! Hey, Saga!

[Sitting up, he glances around again before recalling he is somewhere he hasn't seen before]

Saga? Sugar? Pepper?

Are you guys lost again?
