I like to think that computers as a whole have made life easier. With basic computer skills, including a reasonable typing speed, programming ability, and knowledge of several different platforms, I think I'm in pretty decent shape when it comes to all things Modern ENIAC ( Read more... )

The first thing I do when getting a new computer or a new installation of Word is turn off the "automatic lists" feature. Drives me BONKERS.

Yeah, I didn't really get "funny" out of that. But I can sort of see how your brain was wrapped around it.

The first time I do when I use Word is close it and open another program. If only there were a document program that allowed you to quickly change keyboard shortcuts to do the five basic things you need to do: bullet lists, insert pictures, fit 100 pages of text into 30 with little loss of clarity, strikethrough, and of course make a stiff drink. If there were 10 different levels of potential emphasis I could put on text, I'd be in fat city.

UGCS is working again and I called BNL and yelled and someone found my files. Huzzah!

That's actually scarily similar to what I had in my head. The bagel part is what I was missing.

Ruth has moments of gold.

She also reads your journal, so I need to make the two of you meet so you can duly bond over pierogies and then become LJ friends.

I'm not sure if this is awesome, or whether I am electronically sad.
