Does anyone happen to have any recommendations for music that is either from or emulates the sound of the early 20th century, up to and including the 20's and 30's?
I know the more obvious ones like Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey etc.

Noel Coward, for more of a Broadway sound.
Scott Joplin, the face of Ragtime.
I could go on all night about "Classical" style composers from that era. Edward MacDowell, tail of the 19th, first few years of the 20th, but definitely ahead of his 19th century foudnations. Jean Sibelius, Aaron Copland, Dmitri Shostokovich, Sergei Prokofiev, Igor Stravinsky, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Maurice Ravel.
And I think I've got some other stuff in a variety of styles in my collection, but I'll need to dig through it to get names, and such.

Contact lj'er flappervamp for ideas; I'm sure she could rattle off two or twelve. She lives for this era, and arguably in it.
