do me a favor and recommend a book for my ten page AP thesis paper - something deemed "classic" and good. i've got the fountainhead and handmaid's tale mentally listed, but i don't like the first page of either.

I say everyone, at some point should write a paper on Bridge to Terabithia (and also, the books available online somewhere). but it's a kid book. well, kids novel. kind of. I don't know. I love that book so damn much. [covets] and people are calling it a classic. written in 1970 something.

is there a particular topic for the paper or anything? because that would probably be a determining factor for book (different books are better suited to different kinds of papers).

that being said:
- i'm sure conrad's heart of darkness is an AP favorite, but i loathe the book.
- my senior year of high school, we read a latin american novel called pedro paramo by juan rulfo - very good for literary type papers, though i dunno if it's very AP-ish. we also read chronicle of a death foretold by gabriel garcia marquez, which i wrote many a paper about cause it's easy.
- i like brave new world by aldous huxley. again, not sure that it's very AP. IB is so different from AP.
- i'm also a big fitzgerald fan, but that's been done, right?

why can't you be writing on a play? i know loads of good plays i could suggest. my high school reading list was just so weird compared to most people...i didn't read what AP considers the "classic" literature.

Even though I am trying to keep people AWAY from male writers - I did my thesis paper on Vladamir Nabakov's Lolita and got mad high scores by juxtposing the poetic language with the pedophilic incest and sort of getting into how classism defines someone as elegant/refined/poetic/charming as Humbert as a "good guy" and almost renders acceptable something as gross and perverted as kidnapping a girl to carry on an incestuous affair. It's a very strong thesis in that it examines style AND deconstructs classism and that kind of critical analysis is what AP teachers cum for.

i used ender's game for my ap english class.
not exactly "classic", but certainly interesting & i'm sure one could cull ten pages worth of insight from.
i'm no big fan of sci fi, but this definitely kept my interest.
