The new reign begins. So far, I've seen the new episode, The Eleventh Hour twice, and I unabashedly love it. The actors were perfect, the story was a very nice modern day fairy tale, and there was the right amount of instantaneous chemistry between Doctor and his companion. So why has the euphoria of the past two days suddenly worn off? Simple, ( Read more... )

So I'm slow to react. Just think of me as human Ent.....

But, it sort of works, being slow to see this and answer....Since now there have been six episodes, and every single one has been excellent--not all the same (thank God), but all top quality, with key moments to love.

But the -ism attacks continue. My favorite complaint is a two-parter: I noted the objections of some who thought Moffat's timey-wimey plot line was "too complicated"; this week, "Vampires," according to the same, is "too simple." Goldilocks is, apparently, reviewing DW. :D

I have grave issues with Rusty's depiction of women: across the board, they are weak, shrill, whining, dependent, bitchy, demanding, manipulative, using, and insincere--any combination or all. When he wants them to appear heroic, they randomly become Super Women: pure comic book action heroes. Suddenly, Rose totes a huge gun; suddenly, Gwen is an expert markswoman who can fly through the air, shooting; suddenly, Martha can wander the world alone and/or scamper around blasting away with a huge gun with Mickey at her side.....There's a certain pattern of accessory they all need, and it sure doesn't take much to see the psychosexual overtones ( ... )

Agreed on all points. Besides Donna, I have a hard time finding a female lead or secondary character in Rusty's reign who isn't deeply flawed in some stereotypical way. Mothers tend to be sharp tongued and confrontational, like Donna's nasty mother, and the female characters all have the tendency to fall for the Doctor, just as Gwen falls for Jack, because that's what women do, and the Doctor is irresistible ( ... )
