What a beautiful reminiscence! I think it's that way for anyone who had a good childhood. You just want to go back and see everything just as if it had never changed. Luckily we can do that in memories. And as my Aunt Maybell told me one time, as you get older, you remember childhood better than what you ate for breakfast.
My parents property had to be sold after they died, and now it is all messed up and most of the pine trees are gone. The places I remember most fondly from childhood have been torn down, bulldozed or overbuilt. I just try to recreate my childhood in little things such as planting my veggie garden, reading my mother's books, and telling my father's silly jokes to the kids.
