Belated recap of BakaretsuCon

I arrived at Ally's house at nine, and promptly locked myself out. >_<;; Not my finest moment. After getting a locksmith, we headed off on our grand adventure! It was a nice drive, with gorgeous scenery and Johnny Cash and We ♥ Katamari for a soundtrack. The only unpleasant aspect was the stench of cows.

We arrived at around two, and after I registered, I headed off to the Anime Songwriting panel. It was fun, but we couldn't really stay on track. After some shopping and helping tape up Ally-as-Tifa's hands, Ally and I went to the first Yankee Battle Auction.

When my number came up, I went for the biggest bag, figuring it'd at least be interesting. I got a giant bolt of high-quality fake fur. Ally was pissed off as I am not the costume-maker of the two of us. (I got punched repeatedly.) Eventually the fur was stolen off me. I picked a new bag, and got...a screen wipe. Joy. (Ally laughed.) At the end of the auction, we all voted to see who had gotten the worst prize. I won, as my screen wipe wasn't even edible like some people's prizes. I got to pick again, and got a Serial Experiments Lain artbook. Ally got pissed off again, as I haven't even seen Lain and she has. (I got punched again.)

(...Ally is slightly abusive.)

Afterward, Ally and I participated in the "Whose Line Is It Anime?" event. We were both contestants on a dating show. Ally was a little girl looking for her parents, which was very cute, and I was the voice actor who canceled his appearance at the con last minute. At one point, I ran out of the room. I got a lot of laughs. I also did a press conference skit, where the mystery topic was Disney's acquiring of the con. Apparently Disney's new mascot is a gay turtle.

We met with Kevin and Genna once they showed up and went to grab some dinner. Near midnight, Kevin and I went to see the Anime Parodies viewing, which was great. Dr. Tran is a thousand times more awesome when being seen with a room full of people on a projector screen.

After breakfast. Ally, Genna and I all costumed up. My Ryuk costume and makeup was much more comfortable then I'd thought it would be, although my nails kept falling off. I got nice comments on it from the judges, which was heartening.

Kevin, Genna, and I all signed up for the Super Smash Bros Melee tournament. Somehow, I was the only one of us who made it past the first round. Using Kirby no less. And I put up a good second fight. (Kirby vs. Jigglypuff! A match for the ages...) I ran into both another Ryuk and an L while I was in the game room. Hooray Death Note!

The cosplay itself was fun. I got nervous, but people seemed to like my costume well enough. Ally got an award for her Lulu costume, which was great. Gen thought she should get the "Most Obscure Character" award for hers (Kizuna for Candidate for Goddess), but Ally outdid her later with her third one (Byakko from...god, I don't even remember. Yeah, Ally definitely wins.)

After cleaning up, Kevin and I attended the charity auction. I got him his Christmas present (a Ninja Jesus T-shirt), and we went in together on a DVD of Madlax. I also got a shoujo series which looked cute. Ally and I spent some time after the auction doing Karaoke and playing games.

Ally, Genna, and I went to the pool party, which was fun and wet. I was exhausted afterward, so I took a shower and went to bed, watching Bleach on Adult Swim. There was no escaping the anime this weekend. ^_^

We all slept late and shuffled down to breakfast. I went up before everyone one else to start clearing out, so I missed the muffin incident. Ally and I headed down to the game room and played an old D&D arcade game. We all participated in the Katamari tournament, but no one ranked.

Our last event was the second Yankee Battle Auction, which was fun again. I got a rubber ducky that I traded for a hentai pencil board, which I then exchanged for volumes 2 and 3 of Anne Freaks, a really beautiful and violent manga. Genna got the manga book Kevin originally picked up, and he was stuck with a bottle of Ramune pop. Ally got a volume of Black Cat.

We had dinner at Friendly's, which we should know better than to do, since it's like pulling teeth trying to get one's waiter to serve you. Ally and I got somewhat lost on the way home, and ended up hitting the Northway at exit 13 rather than 20. That's a lot of time on backwater state roads. We somehow crossed the same river twice without changing direction, which disturbed me, but we got home safe.

So all in all, a very good weekend. Looking forward to next year. Too bad you missed it, Jim, but don't worry, you'll be dragged along to Genericon in not too long. ^_^
