30 Days of Awesome: Day 4!

Mar 04, 2010 16:29

I need to do a real entry at some point, but w/e. It's coming.

Day 01 → Your favorite song
Day 02 → Your favorite movie
Day 03 → Your favorite television program

Day 04 → Your favorite book
I love, love, love books. Admittedly, I haven't read many of the "classics" yet, but I'm working on it. I'm really just trying to become more well-read in general. I will try my best to name a singular book, though I have many favorites and they can't be compared as they are so different (On The Night of the Seventh Moon or 1984? A Bride Most Begrudging or Pride and Prejudice?). So here we go...

Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt

I think if I HAD to choose a favorite book, this would be it. And it's interesting, because it's unlike most books I read (historical romance). But I think the fact that I have a fairly strong connection to the location of the book (Savannah, GA) makes me like it more. In 2006, my great-aunt passed away. She looooved Savannah, so we buried her ashes in Bonaventure Cemetery (a big connection to the book there in more ways than one), which is where the statue featured on the cover originally stood (it's now in a museum). That really fetched my interest in the book, along with every tour guide you came across talking about ~the book~. So when I returned home, I immediately read it. I was riveted. It's a non fiction work, though highly stylized and exaggerated in parts (it reads like a novel). But the book is just wonderful. And bonus: I found it at Goodwill a few weeks ago and snatched it up. I'm excited to reread it. :)
