when I say culturally ignorant I'm just refering to the regular average person that makes up about 3/4 or more of our country and that they have no understanding of other persons cultures and their values. I think this is due mostly because people base their opinions and knoledge on sterotypes rather than on actual fact. For instance, a girl at my work couldn't fathom the idea of a black jew, even though in the middle east there are plenty to go around. From the news prospective, a news anchor persisted that she couldn't understand why the middle east hated us so much. I precieved this as short-sighted because she could not take herself out of her americanized way of thinking and look at the world from their point of view. She failed to realized that for one they don't know what it's like over here. Just like over here, all they really pay attention to is the death and destruction we cause along the way against their freedom fighters, or in our case their "insurgents" not really understanding our true intentions. I wouldn't categorize as "america" being ignorant since you must remember... we're in the south, and in texas were the norm is baptist or protestant and the mentality is to be conservative.

well still whether your in the North, South, East, or West, of the U.S most, but not all, don't have a strong understanding of other cultures,including their religions, besides their own [U.S].That's were the "ignorance" comes in which is more about misunderstanding than anything else. Unless they have been formally educated in the matter or have lived around persons from a different culture, most people just go on stereotypes and what they see in movies or on TV. As far as media goes, I wouldn't say Fuck BBC. And I definetly wouldn't say fuck American media as well. I believe that the only way to get the full story is by watching both sides of the issue, because from that, usually, the real truth emerges.
